Nothing in it was contrived, beside the fact that Pamela Anderson knew something would happen to her. She just didn't know how, when or where.

A very long and not-so-funny "candid camera"... Much more annoying than shocking IMO. Over the top is the key word. I still think the whole "social criticism" value of the movie has been vastly exaggerated, as most of the times the people are polite (even if it's only façade) and quite forgiving toward the weird and loud Foreigner. Right up until he tried it IRL and got the crap smacked out of him for it. I haven't seen the movie, but I can't stand his comedy. Cohen's been milking the "say something outrageous in the guise of interview/documentary" cow for a long time and it's never funny.

Only in your opinion. I think the money he made from the film proves the "fact" that "it's never funny" is completely wrong.

Overrated IMO. There are some occasionally funny parts but it's far from the best comedy ever.
Some of my friends loved it, but now the novelty's walking off. It DID get annoying when the only thing people said for like 3 weeks was 'YESHAMESH!' or 'NICE!'. >.>
If your easily offended, don't watch it, simple as. If your curious, I guess you should probably check it out. With the Borat film you either Love it or Hate it (I'm more in the Hate it catagory).

I thought it was funny as hell. I really enjoyed it I've been a big fan of Cohen ever since he showed up on the 11' o clock show.

It was pretty funny, but I made the mistake of buying it. I liked parts of it, but I don't ever see myself sitting through it again. So I'll probably take it back to Hasting's or something for credit. Funny bits here and there, but it's merely 'ok' IMO.

And I have never found him funny. I do find the image of Dr. House rescuing him to be hilariously funny, though. I'm sure Hugh Laurie was right there, but I keep picturing the character balking to lend a hand.

All of it was planned. It's a movie. I would doubt if any of it were actually spontaneous.

Overrated. I'm sure the idea was to show American behaviour at it's ugliest but that only applied to the frat boys and the homophobic rodeo cowboy. If you walk into a dining room with a baggie of your own poop, people will get offended. Duh.

I say watch it, I laughed through the majority of it. I will say, do NOT, under any circumstances whatsoever, bring anyone who might get overly shocked easily to see it. People that have seen it will know the scene I'm referring to. That scene should have won an award for choreography.[\straight face]

I still think the whole "social criticism" value of the movie has been vastly exaggerated, as most of the times the people are polite (even if it's only façade) and quite forgiving toward the weird and loud Foreigner. Watch the movie and decide yourself if you like it or not... I loved the movie, but I thought your comment regarding the social criticism is dead on. I think that most people watch the movie, and say "That's a bit over the top." Which I find a little comforting, because if people saw the movie and said, "Yeah that's about right," I'd be scared for our society. One criticism that I hear internationally is that the USA has no culture. It's bogus though. Our culture is that of many subcultures. "Borat" does a good job of highlighting some of the subcultures in the US (albeit some of the less flattering parts). I would hope that everyone who saw the movie didn't go "Yep that's America," just like people hope that Americans wouldn't say "Yep, those crazy Kazakhs. Caging their retards and letting their rapists roam free." It's okay to poke fun at diversity. (gasp)
