All of it was planned. It's a movie. I would doubt if any of it were actually spontaneous. The Pamela Anderson scene was the only planned part. The cops were called on Cohen 91 times during the movie. I still think it's one of the funniest movies ever.

A very long and not-so-funny "candid camera"... I still think the whole "social criticism" value of the movie has been vastly exaggerated, as most of the times the people are polite (even if it's only façade) and quite forgiving toward the weird and loud Foreigner. Watch the movie and decide yourself if you like it or not... I loved the movie, but I thought your comment regarding the social criticism is dead on. I think that most people watch the movie, and say "That's a bit over the top." Which I find a little comforting, because if people saw the movie and said, "Yeah that's about right," I'd be scared for our society. One criticism that I hear internationally is that the USA has no culture. It's bogus though. Our culture is that of many subcultures. "Borat" does a good job of highlighting some of the subcultures in the US (albeit some of the less flattering parts). I would hope that everyone who saw the movie didn't go "Yep that's America," just like people hope that Americans wouldn't say "Yep, those crazy Kazakhs. Caging their retards and letting their rapists roam free." It's okay to poke fun at diversity. (gasp) I agree entirely. But sometimes the world gets entirely too up in arms over jokes.

Overrated. I'm sure the idea was to show American behaviour at it's ugliest but that only applied to the frat boys and the homophobic rodeo cowboy. If you walk into a dining room with a baggie of your own poop, people will get offended. Duh. That's just it, they didn't get offended by the poop, they got offended at the black woman. they were high society-old money-classic southern racist.

Trust me, it was because the woman was black.

I didn't think this movie was funny at all, although I did find Borat at on the Ali G show funny. The only part of the movie I laughed at was when the kids ran up to the ice cream truck and the bear growled at them.

Well of course he planned what he was gonna do, but it's not like anybody else other than him was in on it (except Azamat and the prostitute).

Da Ali G show is already brilliant enough, but Borat, as a stand-alone film, was brilliant in it's own right.
It's one of the only films I almost went into convulsions watching the first time, I was laughing so hard.
Soon as I can put a few bucks aside, I'm picking up the DVD. 30 extra minutes? Sign me up.

I thought it was really funny, but there got to be a point maybe 2/3rds of the way through where I thought the premise got old. Basically the entire movie followed a pattern: Borat talks to somebody, he says something inappropriate, the person he's talking to laughs awkwardly, rinse and repeat. For the first half of the movie, it was hilarious! Like the scene where Borat was on the TV News broadcast had me in tears. But after a while, it got kinda old I thought.

I watched the it in the theater. I don't think I laughed even once. I just don't like that kind of humor I guess. My husband however laughed his butt off.

I had tears in my eyes when I saw this in the theaters.
And for $14 at Wal-Mart for the DVD? Done and done.
The one part that had me in complete fits was when he ended up buying the bear as "protection", since he couldn't acquire a gun. And then the kids run up to the ice cream truck and the bear sticks his head out and bellows at them. Priceless.

It's the kind of movie that if i'd gotten a call saying that my girlfriend is giving birth to our child well i would've told them that i have no time to head to the hospital because i'm watching the funniest movie ever made.
True statement...I actually saw the movie and laughed real hard.
False statement...I have a girlfriend.

I think the movie was really hilarious when I saw it the first time in the theater. Then I saw it again with some buddies of mine. Still funny but once you've seen it once, it's pretty much all you need. Funny film, but the rewatchabilty factor of Borat is pretty low in my opinion.
