With this film and that Hogan one it makes you wonder what other WWE films they could pull off.
I think an Austin one would be amazing. Also the same with HBK.

My theatre was about half full and they were showing it in 2 theatres, so that’s decent. I didn’t envision this making any money, but it will definitely be in the positive after all is said and done. Which I think is a major positive. I didn’t think it would make money anyway, especially with two big animated franchises having movies out right now (LEGO Movie and How to Train Your Dragon), but just getting good reviews and buzz feels like a win for WWE and the Rock’s studio. It really wasn't that far (only $2mil) behind LEGO 2 this weekend. And $4mil behind ALITA. HTTYD3 was far away the winner, but impressive that FWMF was able to hang with those other 2 (LEGO 2 especially; heck I'm surprised LEGO 2 hasn't cracked $100mil yet).

The biggest problem with those is that they wouldn't really dig deep into their flaws (just like with Hogan and to a lesser degree Paige). Like would they cover Shawn's drug abuse and treatment of others in the locker room? With they cover Austin's spousal abuse?

I'm not suprised aboput the reviews, or the quality, given that it's co-produced by Film4 (who produced or co-produced a lot of great stuff down the years. Saw this tonight. It is a VERY idealistic view of WWE as some kind of fairytale wonderland where hard work always pays off and gains you the acceptance of your peers. The best performance is actually that of the guy playing her brother, who has a real story arc and develops as a character throughout. Nick Frost plays Nick frost with a mohawk and a beard - and while Lena Headey is good, she never really gets out of second gear. Florence Pugh is really good as Paige, but lots of her story post arrival in the US is dramatised or just flat out skipped over (like her winning the NXT Women's Championship). If it were a fictional account of a young female wrestler overcoming the odds and everything ending happily ever after, it would be passable, but you can't help think WWE have adapted history slightly to make both themselves and the story look better. Welcome to biopics. They're very rarely true to life, and have their history re-written and romanticised. The Damned United, Bohemian Rhapsody and The Imitation Game are three of the biggest biopics of recent times, and all the major moments either didn't happen, or didn't happen that way.

Pillman or Eddie biopics would probably clean house pretty well. Those would be dope especially Eddie's man, that would be DEPRESSING. The biggest problem with those is that they wouldn't really dig deep into their flaws (just like with Hogan and to a lesser degree Paige). Like would they cover Shawn's drug abuse and treatment of others in the locker room? With they cover Austin's spousal abuse? I think they'd cover Shawn's drug abuse and his attitude backstage. They can do the whole Christian turnaround thing and it would be a great story.
Austin though, nah they wouldn't show his domestic abuse issues. It would be similar to Dre in Straight Outta Compton. That movie made Dre look like a superhero. Dude was speeding in LA and had all these cops drawing their guns at him and he wasn't shot. Dude straight up told all those gang members to stop all that foolish shit when they were dog fighting. Dre straight up walked out of Suge Knight's office just like that. Dude was doing the most lol.
And with all of that they didn't say a thing about dude's domestic abuse issues. He latter manned up about it later on in life but that wasn't in the movie. I think the same would apply with Austin. They'd talk about everything he did except that.

A Becky Lynch biopic would be interesting, IMO.

I totally expect the Hogan movie to star a ripped 4% body fat super athlete with a full head of long hair as Hogan. Also, everyone else is played by midgets except Andre who is Godzilla-sized CGI.

I honestly think that a real look into the life of Vince McMahon would be one of the more fascinating biopics ever. Guy came from nothing, got into a business his father didn't want him in and then he took a company, bucked every tradition that existed for decades and made a small company into the biggest wrestling company on the planet. Faced some serious charges, beat them, nearly went out of business, then fought back and became even bigger than he did the first time. You tell that story, warts and all, and I would pay all the money to see it.

Just saw a matinee showing. It was decent. Wouldn't pay full price, and am unlikely to ever watch again but an ok enough 2 hrs.

I know biopics employ a lot of artistic licence but there was one bit that annoyed me. The people in the UK watching Wrestlemania and Raw. It would’ve been 2am here.

This was surprisingly not awful. There was a lot in it that had me rolling my eyes, but it's not a bad movie at all. It's better than a movie about Paige has any right to be.
The "Sex Tape" line by the Rock was something I didn't expect them to throw in there.

I forgot to come back to this thread after I saw it the first Saturday it was out. The cinema was absolutely packed, which surprised me to be honest.
I thought it was really, really good. Great performances (especially by the actor playing Zak), funny, and treated the business with some respect.
Though I was a little disappointed with the fictionalised version of NXT. I knew it wouldn’t be 100% fact based, but they had a lot to work with when it came to Paige’s FCW/NXT career, but instead it all became a bit cliche.
