One thing I like about Suzuki is that his overconfidence continually screws him over. He’d win so many more matches if he just kept the sleeper locked in, but no he wants to win with the pile driver. It matches his character and adds a nice narrative theme to his work.

This is fantastic. But the Skull End still looks like crap.

One hell of a main event. I think that was the first time I've ever seen true main event superstar potential in SANADA.

One half of this has had some fairly logical, if expected, booking. I probably would have had Juice in there instead of Yoshi, but I at least get the rationale behind it. Otherwise Ishii, Okada, and Ospreay are all logical. The other half though? Weird. Tanahashi is obvious but everyone else is weird. I know they wanted to do a Cabana/Yano bunch of silliness but that's a waste of time and I'd personally prefer a hoss slugfest between Makabe and DBS. Sanada over Suzuki? Bleh. At this point I think we're getting another Okada/Tana match in the finals of this thing.

I think Sabre's going to beat Tanahashi again here actually, he goes to the final and allows Okada to be the first one to actually beat Sabre in the New Japan Cup.

He's beaten Goto and Suzuki in his first 2 match ups. Colt should be a cake walk in comparison and if he gets past him then he had Tanahashi or ZSJ waiting for him
If he beats either one those guys he has Okada most likely waiting for him

Not really feeling the way the brackets have been set up, but we still got a couple good matches out of Round 2. Was VERY irritated that they had Zack go over Kota, but then I was like "maybe Suzuki will win and we can eventually get to a Zack/Suzuki match-up" But nope. If this leads to yet another Okada/Tanahashi match-up....it'll be a really good match, but I'm over seeing those two wrestle. Other thoughts/short review on Round 2 of NJC if anyone wants to watch: youtu.be/-aURfr04k6w

Oh my god, if the IWGP title match at MSG is Jay White Vs Zack Sabre Jr I may never stop laughing at how far that card fell.

I think Sabre's going to beat Tanahashi again here actually, he goes to the final and allows Okada to be the first one to actually beat Sabre in the New Japan Cup. New Japan's done an amazing job in building up Sabre like a beast, without making the home talent who loses to him look bad. I still think Okada/White at MSG is the plan, but Tanahashi vs. ZSJ is going to be a nail biter. Either guy could win that match.

The crowd is gonna be up for whatever but doesn’t change that White vs ZSJ is filler of the highest order for a show that was pumped up as this big kick the doors down moment for NJPW

I imagine we'll get some combination of ZSJ/Suzuki/Taichi at the G1. They've been keeping ZSJ and Suzuki apart the past two years, but they can't avoid that match AND a match with one of them facing Taichi. Something will have to give.
