I know we all like to joke about YOSHI-HASHI, but the Ishii match was pretty fun.
The storyline throughout the tournament of CHAOS trying to figure itself out in the wake of Jay White and YOSHI hoping to prove his worth is interesting, and it’s generally being told in the ring as opposed to the usual backstage segments in US wrestling.

The one thing that drew me into New Japan is most of the storytelling is done in the ring, although it helps even more watching the promos now that they are translated. As far as YOSHI-HASHI, it was a good match(although Ishii won't let people have bad matches with him), but I just don't buy into him at all. The Japanese crowds seem to like him and want him to do well, but for me he just lacks the presence and facial expressions to make me believe in him. He had some good matches last year around this time, but his G1 was completely flat and I would prefer they put someone else in that spot.

No repeat winner this year. Tanahashi clutch pinned his way to the semifinals.

The Cinderella story for Cabana ended today.
I don't think Okada has ever beaten Ishii in one on one

I bit at the 20 minute mark in the main when ZSJ had Orienteering with Napalm Death locked in, but Tana kicked his way out. Every match those two have is great, but this one might be my favorite so far (just beating their G1 match).
Still believe that Okada will (and probably should) face White at MSG, but I do like the story they're telling with Tanahashi. He wants it more, as it was a MSG match that began his fandom and pushed him to become a wrestler. Being the main event in the Garden would be coming full circle for him.

As much as I don't want another Tana vs. Okada match (where I think they're going), it'll be good, I just want more new blood in the main event scene. I would LOVE if ISHII won the tournament this year tho. Especially since my pick Kota isn't in the running anymore and wants the IC title. I mean, Tana still that dude but you couldn't give Naito his clout here?

I mean, Tana still that dude but you couldn't give Naito his clout here? That would mean letting Naito win something important. And we can't have that, apparently.

I mean, Tana still that dude but you couldn't give Naito his clout here? If the plan is Naito/Ibushi at MSG, must've just felt like the most direct way to get there.

I don't know if this is accurate, but I remember reading/hearing that Ishii is actually more popular overseas than in Japan, where he's liked but he isn't given quite as much reverence and love as the west gives him. Is he just not much of a promo? Something that probably wouldn't have a ton of relevance to the fans who couldn't understand that he was saying, anyway, naturally.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ishii is a bigger deal in the US/UK scene than he actually is in Japan, really.
