Lance Archer has been damned impressive lately. I've been watching him in some capacity since he was "Shadow" in in PCW Dallas, so that'd have to be like 15 years, almost, of his 19 year career. It's been nuts to see, but that he might be the best he's ever been at 42, after 19 years in the ring, is a testament to how he's evolved as a wrestler.

I also do like how yesterday they were pointing out KENTA as the "outsider" and having people question why he should be involved when he left Japan for 5 years and "turned his back on Japanese wrestling"
That's laying it on a little thick but it helps because they brought up is it considered fair he comes in as an outsider while Minoru gets left out (tho also contradictory a bit since he is a freelancer but you get the point)

Both guys are doing a good job of proving they belong, but it's good to have the question presented when it had to have been on many NJPW fans' minds and lips.

Reminds me of Mark Henry catching fire after being 15 years deep into the game.

Yea, it is a great framing device because you want your fans to see how talented these two are and deserving of being there so you give KENTA and Mox the challenge of going against NJPW regulars and while they won't win every match they will show they belong in the process. You don't have to be a heel or a face to feel like KENTA and Mox don't belong which is the great thing.

Still getting caught up, but I've watched last Saturday's show and am currently working on yesterday's. But I'm enjoying what I'm seeing so far.
Obviously, the big names are doing what they are supposed to be doing, but guys like Archer and Robinson are really stepping up. I haven't watched much NJPW recently, so seeing how much Robinson has improved is really cool.
Really enjoyed Moxley, too. I enjoyed how different the match was from the normal flow of the G1.
I'm excited to keep going!

While I look at this card and think Moxley and Cobb's going to be brutal, I don't know if Naito and Taichi's worth staying up for.

I think it ought to be interesting, especially since the two have something of a connection, and Taichi's been rising to the occasion over the last year or so to try to be a good heavyweight. I could see the two of them having a good match. That said, I like Taichi more than most around here, so, different strokes, I guess.

Just saying, I sat through all 17 hours of The Extremist of Rules. That was disappointing so maybe a good G1 night will help cleanse the palette.

One can definitely be full-up on wrestling. I'm only chipper because I got a nap in earlier.

Up until KENTA/Tanahashi, Fale vs Archer was my favorite match on the show. Archer has been very good lately. I'm now real excited for all his other matches in the tourney.
Edit: Shit missed the news about Ospreay being injured. If he makes it to his next G1 match it's going to be Injured Ospreay vs Injured Ibushi in what might be the first literal Deathmatch

Doesn't bode well for this G1 if it's going to be the one of injury. Oh god, Tana's fighting Minoru Suzuki in an 8 man, he's going to be dusted isn't he.

Might be harder hitting then their match at WK for the NEVER title. I assume this time has the hidden blade scouted and gets the W

Oh yeah, the stuff with Sugiura was the clear tipping point from "it's fine, gonna be better" to "nope". If Sugiura had won the title then I think no one would've complained and would look a bit more fondly at that era of NOAH.
