I think they should have had Cody win it earlier if anything. Just seems like they never had any real intention of giving Juice a strong run off the back of his performance against White was career defining for him In what was supposed to be his 2nd coronation in a decisive win over Cody Rhodes fell short due to Cody not being able to work and even then it was sort of put in a dead spot anyway with no real build Yeah, like, I know NJPW was seemingly a bit blindsided by AEW's formation, but if that's all it was, then that doesn't explain how Juice did so little with the belt after winning it back, when Gedo would have had the time to plan, or ROH even would have been potentially allowed to use it some, but nothing really came to pass. Just seem like they never really had any plans for Juice. Once he won the title, that was it which is a shame because his character that he went through now could have happened with the title They had him win the title then have a piss poor G1 with his injury being the problem for the whole thing. Then he wins it again and many people predicted a decent run for him in the NJC and even a match against Okada in which he has a good match in a losing effort and he didn't even get that. I believe he got taken out 2nd round by Taichi. He finally has a good tournament showing in this G1 but I have no real desire to see him with the U.S. title again but they got him vs Mox coming up again. I'm not really thrilled with either option. Either Juice wins it back and we might see a good run this time or Mox holds it and we probably don't see him back for a few months with AEW TV starting.

Whoooooa late but I caught up on some of the tourney I missed.
You know who kinda sucked all tournament? Jeff Cobb. Matanza got exposed really quick as sort of hollow from a worker perspective.

I definitely would not go that far at all, but I admit, I was hoping for more. Not quite sure what wasn't clicking, but it just wasn't as good at it could have been. I do hope they let him in next year, because I would like to see if he could improve on it.

Yeah, he's obviously filling Elgin's role as "big face gaijin", but without a firm establishment, and that's not really helping, that everyone else has some narrative focus. Still, I hope he can figure out some ring chemistry with some of these guys because yeah, it didn't come together.

He did perfectly fine It was his first G1 and obviously NJPW loves him by the way they have gave him this opportunity this year for the G1 and giving him the NEVER title as a way of saying look out for this guy in the future

I also don't think it did him any favors that some of the guys were quite obviously figured in, so there wasn't really any dramatic weight behind some of his matches. He did fine point-wise, but wasn't going to factor in as either a contender or a spoiler like some of the other guys would.

For the foreseeable future he just seems to be a guy they can bring in for tours because he is with ROH. I think they are putting in their time now because once he becomes more available they are going to have him in full time. He won't really get anything to sink his teeth into for a while

I just felt his matches were samey and kinda bad outside of the Ishii match.
He’s a guy I want to like a lot more but he falls into that category of guys that are more fun to watch in gif form.

Just strong athlete I agree, part of it was probably no strong storyline or having a character to build like most of the others. I don't think he was bad, but far less interesting than most of the others. Although I am looking forward to the Archer/Cobb match they seem to be building.

For those that discussed a mini-tournament at WK, with 1/5 being winner-take-all, Naito has agreed to Ibushi's challenge. Naito does mention that he will have to keep the IC title until WK, and he doesn't even know if the IWGP Championship will be defended against the briefcase holder on 1/4 or 1/5 yet, but he's welcoming the idea. Sounds like they are building to the WTA two-night tournament.

However, in saying that if you have Naito lose again the backlash is going to be insane by getting the fans hype up about this and it crumbling once again

I believe at Ibushi's contract signing they confirmed he'll get his shot for the heavyweight title on 1/4, with Ibushi saying he'd want to challenge for the IC belt the next night. Said it before, but it'd be very poetic if Naito now has to treat the IC title as his ticket to his destiny, though I suppose none of this confirms yet that they'd go full tournament style with this right now as currently it's just Ibushi making a personal challenge.

This is more so an Ibushi challenge and not a universal one. If Okada wins he hasn’t agreed to that nor if Anyone Beats Naito for the title but you know they would take that shot If anything you’ll probably have an unofficial agreement in the air
