Card has been announced for Royal Quest. The top three matches are Okada vs. Suzuki for the IWGP title, ZSJ vs. Tanahashi for the RevPro British title, and Ishii vs. KENTA for the NEVER title. It's like they booked the NEVER title match specifically for me- two of my all time favourite wrestlers one on one for (I think) the first time ever! The NEVER title has been pretty interesting as of late, with such a variety of wrestlers challenging for it. I'd love if KENTA can win it, but I also sort of don't, in that I can't picture him dropping it in short order, so that'd mean not Shingo or someone like a Lance Archer with it. Then again, that'd be a perfectly fine "problem" to have, now, wouldn't it?

I don't mind if it's a NEVER title match or not, but I want that Shingo/Ishii rematch at Wrestle Kingdom

See, I've had a little theory in my head that the first wk show woyld have an IWGP and an IC title match, then the 2nd would be champ vs champ in a unification match. Probably won't happen, but Ibushi at the prrss conference has kinda hinted at that. Who knows.

That'd be rather strange.

Ibushi also confirmed he’ll defend his WK main event spot against both EVIL and KENTA. I imagine those will come at some combination of Destruction/KoPW/Power Struggle.
Also, it really does sound like they’re building to Ibushi vs. Okada on 1/4, and then Ibushi/Okada vs. Naito in a Winner-Take-All on 1/5.

Can you imagine the fanbase if Naito defends on 1/4 against White, only to lose the IC title and a chance at both belts and we get Ibushi or Okada/White on 1/5.

I speak for myself and hopefully other people when I say I absolutely do not hope for any of that. Naito is far and away my favourite in NJPW, but between the reactions to him losing at WK12 and to White at the weekend...well let's just say that some people just like to watch the world burn. There's a part of me giddy with the meltdown that scenario would omit. You'd be able to power entire countries with the nuclear heat Gedo would have if that happened.

Underrated part of the final: LA Dojo vs. Tokyo Dojo heat. Love that.
Goto and Shingo both commented on one another after the tag match, might be leading to another round between the two. If they were to get locked into a permanent round robin tournament with Ishii, I'd be a happy man.
As much as I loved Minoru getting some shine here, they should really think about booking Suzuki/Sabre to win World Tag League. I know they've avoided pairing them before, but with KES out of the picture and Iizuka retired, Sith Lord Suzuki and his apprentice Sabre could be a huge boon to a struggling tag division, plus allow Minoru to work a bit easier for his 51 year old body.
Wish I hadn't read some people predicting the KENTA heel turn, but it was pulled off nicely and fits the whole situation well. I'm not of the mind that Shibata is coming all the way back; they were careful not to have him bump much, as the hardest strike he took was a PK to the chest, nothing near his head. But man, the pop for him was unreal, the crowd not realizing what was happening until he got his hands on KENTA, and then going completely ape. Hope he can at least be back for special occasions, if nothing else. Bullet Club desperately needed someone like KENTA, too; could probably stand to get another legitimate upper card name, but one step at a time.
Really enjoyed the main event, and I was biting pretty hard on each reversal, genuinely thought White might've wound up pulling it out each time he slithered away from Kamigoye. The pure face/heel dynamic was fresh for the final, but both guys end up in great standing.
Ibushi talking about challenging for both belts between 1/4-1/5 obviously opens a lot of things up. Does it mean just Ibushi being involved in two title matches, or does the idea get extended to "whomever the champions are on 1/5"?

One thing this tournament has showed me is that motivated Taichi rules.
Where the hell has this Taichi been?

One thing this tournament has showed me is that motivated Taichi rules. Where the hell has this Taichi been? He's popped up here and there. His first two heavyweight matches with Naito(also their match at TakaTaichimania) and Tanahashi showed him motivated, and he was there against Ishii in the New Japan Cup. Taichi has been teetering on the line of the usual cheating like hell/trolling Taichi and motivated Taichi since moving up to heavyweight. But Ishii has definitely brought out the best in him and I was glad to see him finally win a match a clean. It seems he has been fighting people clean at first, but failing, so he goes back to his old habits, which is what happened with the Naito feud.

The "Winner of Night 1 fights IC champion on Night 2" thing does make me feel better about the G1 result, if they do go that route. Does make me think Ibushi is super not winning night 1, but that's fine by me. I'd rather Okada and Naito end it once and for all than watch Naito drop Ibushi on his head because Ibushi makes stupid life decisions. Honestly, kinda makes me think they might be trying to turn Taichi face and are building to that, with Ishii having told him prior to this to drop the cheap tricks and fight, because he could. Then again, though, they also had him pick up a protege in DOUKI and take possession of the Iron Finger as his nuclear option, so maybe he's going to stay heel.

Ibushi can walk out having made history or looking like a fool. I'd normally be more concerned about that, but I think they've done enough to establish he's credible as hell, but that he's also a guy who takes ludicrous chances.

Yeah, Ibushi as a character can recover from a blow like that because he takes chances and even when he takes L's it never hurts him Add on the fact he just beat Okada and has beaten Naito multiple times so it wouldn't be as crazy a thought
