MLB is going to interview Astros manager AJ Hinch, former bench coach and current Red Sox manager Alex Cora, and former Astros player and now Mets manager Carlos Beltran in the investigation. Rob Manfred said on the record that if their investigations show proof the Astros cheated, they will "be punished in a way that makes sure this never happens again." Whatever that means. Outside of stripping them of the title, I don't know what else they could do that would stop this I think they do a big fine, take away dome draft picks but at the end of the day they still have a title in their back pocket

Bellinger won NL MVP
Trout wins his 3rd
I'm sorry Trout is great and dude can win 10 MVPs but he needs a team around him otherwise his greatness will be limited. 3 MVPs and dude has yet to really sniff the playoffs. That's not his fault since it is a team game but when you are the best player in your sport you are going to get an unfair expectation and MVPs don't really cut it anymore

Both league MVPs went to LA with Trout and Bellinger.
Man, the BBWA really is not happy that the Nats won it all as it ruined their narrative.

I think they may just be using the criteria for the award and not the conspiracy against a great team that performed poorly for half a season that you are trying to suggest. I can only assume you're saying Rendon should have won it? Dude is great but it was always gonna be between Bellinger and Yelich.

Friendly reminder that these awards are regular season awards and the votes are made before the postseason even starts. Postseason performance is a literal nonfactor. Nationals got red hot at the right time, but they were not a consistent team all year and the awards their players were eligible for they were outperformed by others. So, no there isn't some grand conspiracy against the Nationals because they got a wild card berth. Bellinger had a better season than Rendon and deGrom had a better season than Scherzer.
Though as I've said previously on this thread, I think Martinez should've gotten some consideration for Manager of the Year because the Nationals were mediocre at best at the All-Star Break (along with talk of him being fired), and they really turned it around the second half of the season. Though I guess Shildt got the win for similar reasons with the Cards.

Good job not trading Will Smith at the deadline, Giants.

Good job not trading Will Smith at the deadline, Giants. My assumption is they figured they'd get the same compensation regardless since they attached the QO

If the Dodgers don't like...go after everyone, I'm going to dive deeper into my Bojack-esque abusive depression. I know May and Lux are going to explode next year but every name they are linked to is a hitter (Lindor is the rumor), when we need pitching. I'm 100% OK with throwing bad contract at guys and being laughed at for it.

The only reason I would think they might realize it was a mistake to not even nominate Dave Martinez for manager of the year. But like Max Scherzer not winning the Cy Young (Even though I think Strasberg deserved it as he was just as good in the regular season as he was in the postseason, but seriously......you gave it to DeGrom?), it seems they didn't want the Nats to get anything. Now on that other thing, I would agree with you....except for one thing. The Cardinals were also not good early, but they nominated and gave Mike Schildt manager of the year. So no....that whole idea of they got punished for performing badly is bogus in my eyes. But hey, let them get mad we ruined their narrative, we still won the World Series. Most people will forget those BBWA awards when they look back (only to remember when Hall of Fame time comes, but they aren't going to forget that the Nationals won this World Series.

I just had the nightmare scenario of the Dodgers signing MadBum to help their playoff pitching woes. I’d vomit.

That's the only way to hurt a team nowadays. If they take away all their first round picks for the next 5 years plus capping their international spending, it would be very hard for them to get young assets to develop or trade anymore. It would have to be something like that. I agree they won't take away the WS. The only way to do that would be to say no one won the WS that year and declare it a lost season (can't give it to the Dodgers since I doubt they'd even want it that way), but it's more likely they'll punish them with picks/international money and the Astros will have to live with the * next to their World Series forever.

Yeah, I expect that to be the case for like a 3 year period. It is the only way to hurt them non free agency wise and that puts damage on them for the next few years even if they won't see the damage immediately. Big fine, international spending money basically to the bare minimum and loss of draft picks over the next 3 years is a good deterrent to stop that shit. Will it end the cheating? No. But it will make you think twice because if you are the 2nd team to get caught you're going to get it worse

Note I wasn't really going after Trout. The AL is the AL. The MVP choices was merely just the finale. When you don't even nominate Martinez, but nominate Shildt and have him win.....and then give the Cy Young to DeGrom (playing for the team I think who they wanted to get that wild card) over Scherzer or Strasberg (who somehow finished 5th), there is something incredibly fishy going on. You seem to think that I'm saying them winning the MVP upsets the narrative, no....I was saying a Harper-less Nationals getting into the playoffs and winning the World Series upset their narrative.

I’m not trying to be a dick here so sorry if I’m coming across that way but you posted the upset narrative thing in response to LA players winning the MVP. If I’m misunderstanding that you meant that as two separate statements in no relation to each other my bad dude, just seemed that way?

Shildt won because that team was not very good and they won the divison. And with a lower payroll. The talent gap was readily apparent in the postseason as the Nats were a great deal better, and no amount of managing could make up for that. Cards best player was sandwiched between two Nats in the Cy voting. Nats had three in the top 10 in the Cy voting and two in the top 9 in MVP voting. Same with Baldelli. Overachieving with less talent is more impressive than perennial playoff teams with a slightly better record.

To fix that misunderstanding, Bellinger and Trout were the right guys to win MVP. Shildt did not deserve the Manager of the Year. DeGrom did not deserve this year's Cy Young.
