It's morning. I still blame Verlander. It's not all his fault, but losing both games he started was a big, big part of it. Bigger picture, dude has never won a World Series start. There's no sugar coating it, he's a choke artist in the big moment Kershaw 2.0. But with a hot ass wife.

I was there for Strasburg's debut. I have gone through so much heartache with this team, consistently coming up short in the playoffs in years where they should have gone to the World Series, if not won the whole damn thing. This is amazing, especially a month or two after the Mystics won the WNBA Championship and 2 years after the Caps won the Stanley Cup. I was at Nats Park last night, I've lost my voice but it was worth it. Don't forget the Washington Valor won the Arena Bowl last year!

And the Royals hire Mike Matheny being a sports fan sucks balls. He literally got hired because he answered the God question the right way, nothing else. Matheny's exactly the type of guy you want running a rebuilding team, if you want the team to tank. This is gonna be a shitshow for the Royals.

It's odd in a way because the Nationals taking out the 106 win Dodgers and the 107 win Astros is one of the best runs anyone has ever made. But really the Nats have been knocking on the door for a while now, really since 2012. It's no shock that they finally figured it out. But let's get real here about Harper. The dude is just hilariously overrated. In his career he has had 1 awesome MVP type season in 2015, but take a look at his WAR by season since then: 1.5, 4.6, 1.3, 4.2. Losing him didn't especially mean anything, nor did he make the Phillies a serious contender. Philly was 80-82 in 2018, 81-81 in 2019. But I guess he moved some tickets for the Phillies, so there's that.
I caught some flack on Facebook a couple of years ago when I said Verlander was a big game choke artist. Yes, he does have a winning postseason record, but 8 of those wins are in the far less stressful ALDS round. 0-6 in the World Series with a 5.68 ERA though? Greinke has been pretty in the postseason as well (3-6 with a 4.21 ERA) but he did well in this WS at least. But hey, Strasburg is the man right now. Beat Verlander both times. Washington's best beat Houston's best both times. Not much else can be said.

Mets to hire Carlos Beltran as their manager. That is going to be interesting Another play with no managerial experience but a smart mind. Beltran was an All Star so this is different from the Boone, Ross and Cora hires

Hopefully I'm right, but I think the Nationals made the conscious decision of picking Rendon over Harper when it came to the big money salary. Third base is a position that is more difficult to fill. I mean look at our outfield, I believe Eaton/Soto/Robles made less than $15 million combined and most of that was Eaton's salary. Not trying to bash Harper here or anything, but it wouldn't shock me with the Nationals winning the world series that owners and GMs will be less inclined to spend $300 million on one hitter.

Beltran was an All Star so this is different from the Boone, Ross and Cora hires He's also a great clubhouse guy who respected the press but didn't give cliched answers. I wasn't sure at first but I'm kinda warming up to manager Beltran. He needs redemption from all the stupid Mets fans who think his one 2006 NLCS at bat blew up the world.

It's tough. I'd probably pay that for Trout but that's about it. The Padres were similarly idiotic when it came to signing Manny Machado, who hit all of .256 this year with a .796 OPS. The Padres did draw nearly 2.4 million fans though, pretty decent for a last place team. These guys like Machado and Harper really don't have the overall impact on a team or the numbers to justify such insane money. Machado's career WAR is about 37, Harper's is 31.5. Trout? 72.5 already. No comparison.

Straburg has decided to opt out of his contract.
I honestly see him landing in Boston for some reason.
