Why do people like him?
He always gives me creepy vibes with his skin tight suits and general douchebag look. He was dull as dishwater in Legacy, boring with the IC title, dumb moustache gimmick and finally changed it up as Stardust and was entertaining but he didn't like the gimmick but anything was better than generic Cody.

Speaking personally I'd say it's because he is currently incredible at playing that douchebag in a suit and his character work is absolutely top level. Makes you able to look past his standard ring work. He makes me believe what he's doing. He's clearly got a lot of respect for the history of the business and seems to be a pretty sharp mind. Also not afraid to take the piss out of himself and doesn't take it all too seriously. Genuinely seems like a great guy.

His surname, his good looks, his 'celeb' (by pro wrestling levels) marriage and his above average mic and in ring work had him a job for life in WWE if he wished, its not inconceivable that had he stayed and shed the Stardust character he could be enjoying the same pushes Miz and Kofi have had in recent years. I think a lot of people admire him taking a risk and it leading to better opportunities than even he could have wished for.

Even as stardust which should have been a pile of shit he made it work, people overlook how good he was in that role, his mannarisms the way he moved etc were great, even though he wasn't happy to be playing that character he was still great at it.
Man the e cosmic wasteland were a great stable and it's a shame more wasn't done with them.

As a gimmike I think he’s pretty good. Dashing/broken/stardust As Cody Rhodes he’s dull as f*** and the only thing special about him is his last name

For me, he’s in the same category as Alexa Bliss, where his character work is top notch, but when it comes to the actual matches, that’s where it all goes wrong.
He had horrible matches against Okada and Kota Ibushi. I didn’t think it was possible for them to have bad matches.

I remember reading in the Tokyo Dome book that people compared the Kota match to Savage/Tenryu from a dome show. Had a good laugh.

Remember folks, if you're not putting on Okada/Omega/Tanahashi level matches then you suck!
Cody is a great wrestler and has been one of my favourites since he wore the mask.

For legal reasons the thread should be changed to “What’s so special about Cody?” Since the wwe owns Rhodes and Cody doesn’t seem to give a straight answer regarding if he owns Rhodes or not I used to despise the guy and think that he was just an opportunist that hitched his ride to the Young Bucks ride, but he has won me over. I still think he sees himself bigger than what he really is, but his dad was a huge egomaniac too. Unfortunately I have to apply something Jim Cornette says “if this was a movie you’d be the best friend” and I still agree with Triple H telling him that he isn’t main event material but that he still had an important role with the company. But he shut me up by main eventing All In and getting all those people there. Still I don’t know if he was the draw or again the Young Bucks drew the crowd and Cody was just lucky to be there. Do the Bucks need Cody or does Cody needs the Bucks?

I hated his NJPW run, showing up at random times for lame matches and punctuated by that ridiculous three way. I thought he worked well with Juice though.
I’m not totally into his character work but that and his promotional ability really resonate with a lot of people it seems. He’s obviously very committed to what he does, so as much as I don’t enjoy him I understand why people appreciate his work so I can’t really knock his hustle.

Good wrestler, great character work, seems to have a phenomenal mind and vision for wrestling, seems like a very down to earth, relatable dude despite his arrogant rich guy gimmick. And honestly, he just flat out seems like the sort of guy I’d like to have a scotch and cigar with.
Plus, Pharaoh, as long as that dog is alive is gonna be VERY hard to hate on Cody.

To each their own, but to me Cody was one of the hand full of guys I enjoyed watching back when I was trying to get back into WWE in 2009. At first I saw him and DiBiase as your standard "2nd/3rd generation up and coming superstars" but the more I watched, the more of a liking I took to Cody while DiBiase Jr. was always very bland. From there, no matter what he did he just always entertained me. Has nothing to do with being Dusty's son, because I pretty much hated Dusty as anything but a commentator, though I love Dustin.

Ok I have a question, let’s say that Nick or Matt get injured for Double or Nothing, can Cody still sell it out?
With him in the main event, not Omega and not Jericho, I’m talking Cody being responsible for selling it out.

Im not a big fan of his to be honest. His match with Lethal at Final Battle was so dull I walked out. But kudos to him for going with this venture and having success

To me the best metaphor for Cody is Curt Henning. He is easily one of the most solid all round hands you will find anywhere and there is pretty well no style he can’t work with-but he just never had that “IT” factor to truly break through to the top of the pecking order. There were times he brushed the main event and title picture, just like Henning, but every time there was someone who just had that total package better than him and hence got that spotlight. The big thing going for him right now is that he has shown he is capable of promoting a hot wrestling show and he obviously has as much insider knowledge as anyone, so him being the one to start a promotion can’t help but raise some eyebrows.
