Stupid thing to say. She did the right thing by holding herself accountable for it and apologising.
Really hope a talented wrestler doesn't get her career impaled by one idiotic slip of the tongue.

I can’t imagine anything coming from this, but hopefully it’s a learning experience for her and she recognizes we can’t just throw awful words around like that. She comes across like a sweet person outside of her character so I doubt she has any prejudices, but she definitely has some bad habits from her upbringing that she needs to cut out.
Most people I knew (including myself) used to say those kinds of gay slurs as a teen. At some point you have to realize who you’re really hurting when you say stuff like that.

I hate the "she's young" excuse. She's 22, not 15, and she's been working in the UK long enough to know that it's a word you don't say so I don't buy the "she's Australian" excuse either.
She'll be fine longterm because their top stars, and commentators have said the same (or worse) but hopefully she smartens up. No excusing this behaviour in my opinion.

Given some of the dumb shit that wrestlers have said, she'll be fine, but some people will be slow to forgive, I'm sure. That said, it's not that likely to hurt her professionally, given they'd have probably hired Havok if she hadn't done it on her twitter, plus guys like Lars, AJ, etc, with some really repugnant shit they've said.

I'm sure they will. And I can't tell people they're right or wrong to respond to anything emotionally. But unless we dig up her bodybuilding.com account where she rants about straight people on Ultimate Warrior levels of idiocy, or we unearth a sex tape of her f***ing Bubba The Love Sponge's partner where she talks about how she doesn't want her daughter to hang around with f******, I'm not getting that angry. My initial reaction to this was "way to go, dumbass". But she handled herself the best she could afterwards. Didn't try to justify it, just out and out said "I got it wrong. I'm sorry." I'm sure Twitter is handling this with its usual grace and dignity.

I'm disappointed, sure, but like you said, her apologizing and not trying to spin it helps a lot, and sure, it's nowhere near the level of any of those other things.

So should we lock her in a stockade and throw vegetables at her?

On one hand, we should all know by now that the F word with 6 letters should be totally eradicated from English language lexicon. On the other hand, it was spur of the moment, and I believe it just slipped out. And she did apologize for it quickly and directly, so that should certainly help diffuse any backlash. On the OTHER other hand, at least it wasn't the N word. She'd already be in the Alumni section if it were that.

Question for those who watched the whole stream: How many people paid to be insulted before that guy? I think that matters here. If I'm on a livestream getting paid to slam people and I'm also trying not to be repetitive, I imagine something bad might slip out my mouth too if I'm on my 100th insult. Doesn't mean it's my actual view.

It really shouldn’t be removed as it has multiple meanings, one of which is still used regularly here. I like to eat faggots and have no issue with using the word in that context as it pre-dates the use of it as a slur by many years. If said as an insult, yes, it’s a thoroughly nasty thing to say but eradicating the word itself because of one definition isn’t really the answer.

Because you did use the verb 'eat'. I know it can also mean a bundle of sticks, as well as a cigarette.

If she was really sorry, she wouldn't have said it in the first place. That is pretty reductionist. As for Rhea, she is young and this was stupid. I don't for a second think she's a homophobe. This isn't something to lump in with Hogan. I'm queer, and at her age I still used that word as a 'generic' insult and I don't even come from Australia. People often think that intentions are magic and that using the word when *you* aren't phobic makes it okay. It is reductionist. And we should give people the chance to apologise. And considering she did so immediately, it's forgiven in my eyes.

It’s another one that’s been used here for years, since at least the early 1900s and is still used frequently now. It’s occasionally used in “bumming a fag” as to bum means to borrow, so bumming a fag means borrowing a cigarette from someone. Of course, say that in America and see the reaction! A faggot is a meatball. The bundle of sticks measurement is probably the oldest but unless you work in a trade where sticks are bundled, it’s not used here in that context at all.

For comparison sake, Jonah Hill at one point faced this dilemma. He got into an argument with someone one day on the street, the F word slipped out of his mouth, and news media caught wind of it. Once the story broke, Jonah quickly apologized, said it was in the heat of the moment, promised never to do that again, and his career DIDN'T face any long-term damage because of it.

How many 22 year olds do you hang around with? Because they're probably assholes. Most 22 year olds will be. Myself and Madlibs have both said that at age 22 we would say shit like this. Nobody is using it as an excuse, and I haven't read her apology but I am guessing she definitely isn't. Just making observations about why we're not holding it against her.

How many 22 year old do I hang around with? None, but when I was around that age I did.. bit of an odd question. This is the word that was being screamed at me whilst I was getting the shit kicked out of me when I was 18. So while you might not hold it against her, I reserve my right to think she's a f***ing idiot.

Her apology's honestly better than I'd have expected, but I still get that it's not going to be enough for everyone. I mean, we live in a world where Azelea Banks has apologized plenty of times, all before unleashing her latest shitty, hate-fueled outburst, so people are well within their rights to wait and see how sincere someone's apology is.
