www.fightful.com/wrestling/rhea-ripley-apologizes-using-sexual-slur-during-live-streamFor those who want to know, it was the F word. THAT one. Oopsie-doodle. What should the appropriate course of action be here? I'm not sure WWE could fire her given they openly work with Hulk Hogan and kept on Lars Sullivan for much worse, but I don't think they should just let things slide here. She's already off TV rehabbing a foot injury, so I suppose that absence could be extended as somewhat of a punishment.

Anyone who wants to comment on this, please be advised, the word isn't filtered here. Does not mean we want you to post it or that it'd be a good look, so yeah, please don't.

I highly doubt she's getting fired over it, but I wouldn't be surprised if any future Insiders streams get toned way the f*** down, especially since there's no job security at the level that Brennan, Manny, and Shane are at.

Not excusing it but she’s Australian right? My Aussie friends always told me it’s more of a general insult there rather than one specific to sexuality.

As am I, although I'm probably not one to ask about what is said in social circles since I'm not usually in them. All I know for certain is that the C word is way more casually thrown around here than it is the US, but that's not what's at the heart of the matter here.

If you go your whole life using a word as a generic insult, sometimes it’ll just come out when you don’t want it to. I lived in the US for a while and was pretty good with cutting back on the swears as it’s far more taboo there than it is in the UK but every now and then it would just happen. Obviously, not on the scale of saying it during a broadcast but it’s still a similar thing.

She seemed pretty happy to say it. That’s an odd way to raise $15 but whatever.

Well, she is from Adelaide. This a bogan thing? One of my best friends is an aussie, but a lot of it just flies up and over me, minus a few choice phrases like, "chuck a wobbly".

I get a sense that a sizeable amount of her fans are LGBTQ+, so that could really affect her in that regard. Good that she is already aware that what she said was wrong, which is more than what a few people in that company have done. It's now about not repeating anything like this.
As for that stream, not the first time talent on there have got in trouble... and they're among the most disposable, so very very risky.

If she was really sorry, she wouldn't have said it in the first place.

Super disappointing (especially if you've seen the full clip of what she said...OOF) and I absolutely can't defend it at all, but I think something that should be considered is just how much that word was dumbed down in to a general insult for quite awhile. Like, to the point where a lot of folks just shout it out without any real context of what it means in their head. It's stupid as f*** on her part, but I think it's more something to be worked on and sorted out internally than anything else.

She said something wrong, she's since apologised.
It seems a sincere apology.
If people are still angry that's fair enough but to me I'm not sure what else she can do , she f***ed up and she's said sorry.

If she was really sorry, she wouldn't have said it in the first place. That is pretty reductionist. As for Rhea, she is young and this was stupid. I don't for a second think she's a homophobe. This isn't something to lump in with Hogan. I'm queer, and at her age I still used that word as a 'generic' insult and I don't even come from Australia. People often think that intentions are magic and that using the word when *you* aren't phobic makes it okay.

I think the discussion to be had here is less someone being homophobic or not and more how the slur in question has just been totally dumbed down in to a casual insult devoid of any context when it absolutely shouldn't be. Another example of this is the shitload of harm that came with the rise of Cartman in pop culture and how casual it helped make calling people "jew" as this generic insult of its own. Matt and Trey aren't exactly free and clear of doing the same with the F word, for that matter.

I'm reminded of when Neil Patrick Harris made a joke that he "looked like a tr***y" during some bit, and when he (quite rightly) got called out on it, he was apologetic and seemed sincerely remorseful. I think even well-meaning people can fall victim to the insidious nature of hurtful, casual bigoted language. Like, there's many reasons it's so hard to root out and remove, and no small part of it is how easy it is for someone to feed into it without thinking about it.

Seen the clip. Really dumb, and definite brain-to-mouth screw up in trying to think of something to say. The immediate reactions of those around her said a lot.
Don't see it as a firing offence, but appearances by stars on streams like that will be probably verboten now and she'll need to mend a few bridges with the LGBTQ+ community. Maybe take the opportunity to reach out and offer help and understand better herself.
