How many 22 year olds do you hang around with? Because they're probably assholes. Most 22 year olds will be. Myself and Madlibs have both said that at age 22 we would say shit like this. Nobody is using it as an excuse, and I haven't read her apology but I am guessing she definitely isn't. Just making observations about why we're not holding it against her. I'm 26 and I'd still slap 22 year old Lilith in the face for being a grade A tool most of the time. Personally, I've always been the paragon of virtue that you all know today.

www.fightful.com/wrestling/rhea-ripley-apologizes-using-sexual-slur-during-live-streamFor those who want to know, it was the F word. THAT one. Oopsie-doodle. What should the appropriate course of action be here? I'm not sure WWE could fire her given they openly work with Hulk Hogan and kept on Lars Sullivan for much worse, but I don't think they should just let things slide here. She's already off TV rehabbing a foot injury, so I suppose that absence could be extended as somewhat of a punishment. "THIS IS MY APOLOGY!"

There's only two occasions when you can say that word. If you're British and talking about cigarettes or you're singing The Pogues at Christmas time. Surely everyone knows that now.

I hate the "she's young" excuse. She's 22, not 15, and she's been working in the UK long enough to know that it's a word you don't say so I don't buy the "she's Australian" excuse either. She'll be fine longterm because their top stars, and commentators have said the same (or worse) but hopefully she smartens up. No excusing this behaviour in my opinion. To be fair when I was 22 I had used the word myself jokingly to my gay friends. I'm too from the UK and didn't know the word was so offensive. I thought it was a mild word for a gay person like poof or bender at the time.

Not sure what to say really. I get that she's only 22. When I was 22 (2005) I am willing to admit I used the F word in both its 3 letter and 6 letter variations (never as an insult towards LGBT people). But...that was 2005. The 'F' word, as I slowly learned, is wrong and repugnant but it's also going through a gradual phase-out period where it's still going to be uttered by a few people unfortunately.
When I was 22 'Queer Eye' was still considered groundbreaking television, gay marriage barely existed, and we didn't have 'SJWs' because the super right-wing, freedom loving, devout Christians were controlling the cultural norms that counter-culture movements were railing against (it may surprise some people that 4Chan was known predominantly as a liberal space first).
In 2019, her saying the F word is like someone saying the N word in 1975; in the 14 years preceding that we had gone through a major cultural shift with the Civil Rights movement. Suddenly saying that word was heavily taboo compared to saying it back in 1961. Of course some people are still going to say the N word the same way the F word will still be a thing. Rhea using the F word today is pretty dumb, but it hasn't been that long yet since that word has been kicked to the curb. She's learning and I believe her apology was sincere.

I mentioned this in another thread but I legit cant believe I never heard the full version of Money For Nothing with THAT verse in until 2 days ago. I love that song and the full version is just... eesh.

(Obviously I'm not talking about Rhea Ripley in that context.) The song is saying more about the people calling that person a faggot.

I disagree with faggot being like the n word. The n word has (to my knowledge anyway) never meant anything other than a racist slur or certainly not any other definition that is still in use today. As I’ve said before, “Faggot” has several meanings in different countries which use the English language. The n word means the same one thing in every English-speaking country.

The whole "it doesn't matter how you used the word, you used it so you're done" sort of thing. Not that that's what you were doing at all.

Hogan opened Wrestlemania&WWE regularly goes to a country that executes dissenters in grisly ways (even crucified a dude this week) so definitely not a firing offense. Unfortunate teachable moment it sounds like.

That money goes to Brennan Williams and Mansoor. It doesn't go to charity or anything. And Brennan nuked his twitch stream archives and twitter page after last night. This isn't the first time they've gotten in trouble either, so I imagine they are either on very thin ice, or are going to fall through after last night. The first real notable incident I remember (although it didn't get much traction) was them bothering Adam Cole about his (and other workers) intimate lives. They also tried to make Kairi Sane a fixture of the stream by reading erotic fanfiction of her on it (behind her back at that), although that ended fairly quickly because management came down on them for it. Because someone had a viewer request for that, and Mansoor said they weren't allowed to do it anymore because she found out and got really pissed off about it. It feels like those streams are a great way to commit career suicide right now in WWE because it has no filter and it generally exposes the worst in people. I really like Brennan Williams on UUDD, but the more I learn about him, the more I'm kind of side-eyeing him. I've read that he's a bit of a 4chan-style shitposter, and his buddy, Mansoor, is a Trump fan. I haven't watched much of his Twitch, because I hate the Twitch format, and his streams don't seem interesting enough to persevere with it. Livestreaming is definitely a big risk, and one I expect the WWE to crack down on. Because if you accidentally say or do something, you can't edit it out. As you say, it can easily expose the worst in people, and when you're in a business where reputation really matters, it can be incredibly damaging. I watched one of Tyler Breeze's old streams the other day, which had Alexa and EC3 as guests for an impromptu Q&A. The questions were pretty respectful, although Alexa did decline to answer a couple (like who her least favourite opponent was), and I guess that's down to how Breezy runs his stream, and the viewers respecting the boundaries he sets. When done right, it can be a cool way of learning more about your favourite wrestlers, and seeing the backstage friendships they have. When done wrong, it ends up with people in risk of being fired. Don’t even start with this shitting on Brennan and Manny thing. The 4 Chan shit so god damn obviously tongue in cheek it’s ridiculous that anyone can’t tell that.

I wouldn't punish her just because it would be a REALLY bad look when the company are currently pushing a guy who has said a lot worse. Therefore I'm 100% expecting severe punishment.
