Snake River Redemption Friday July 9, 2021 The Rockpile in Toronto, Ontario First show since November of 2020. I think I may have seen Snake River Redemption back in the good times. It didn’t matter. I needed a show. I’d go see just about anything at this point. The Rockpile is the only place doing shows right now because we’re only allowed outdoor patio shows for the next few weeks still and it’s the only place I regular that has one, that I know of. I guess the band doesn’t have enough original material to do two full sets so they rechristened themselves “the Snake River Butchers” and did covers for their first set. And they totally lived up to the name. I’ll give them a pass because maybe they only got to rehearse these songs…once. It was just some dudes glad to be back on stage. The guitarist was f***ing funny. 1. Nirvana ‘School’ 2. Black Sabbath ‘Hole in the Sky’/Pantera ‘A New Level’ 3. Kiss ‘Cold Gin’ 4. Black Sabbath ‘Paranoid’ 5. Metallica ‘For Who the Bell Tolls’ 6. Megadeth ‘Dawn Patrol’ 7. Black Sabbath ‘Sweet Leaf’ 8. Nirvana ‘Negative Creep’ 9. ? The actual band was way better. I don’t know any of their song titles but they played songs that had titles which were there’s. They sounded like a band that maybe likes and takes inspiration from Pantera, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Megadeth and something I else know I’ve heard but couldn’t quite put my finger on and play in small Toronto area bars, possibly opening for Pat Traverse and stealing muffins from his rider. They even did rattle off some titles but like I remember/care. I liked them. Best band I’ve seen this year. www.facebook.com/SnakeRiverRedemption/

I don't want to f*** up the thread by posting something that isn't review, but I bought my first concert tickets in a long time yesterday. It's looking like my first concert post-vaccination will be seeing Metallica in Atlanta on November 6th. I'll probably get laughed at by metal cool boys for wearing a mask, but I don't think I'm going to be that comfortable around all those people by November, certainly in a state where vaccinations are lagging.

Sandman Saturday July 10th, 2021 From the Rockpile in Toronto, Ontario I’m really not a big Metallica fan, at all. I’ve seen more Metallica cover bands than Metallica themselves. I wasn’t dying for this or anything and honestly I probably wouldn’t have gone if I hadn’t bought the ticket a year ago and it was one of those shows they kept getting rescheduled rather than cancelled during the pandemic. Sandman were one of the last bands I saw before things fell apart last winter so it was kinda poetic that one of the first bands I see now that things (maybe) are picking up is them. They’re doing a sort-of residency at the Rockpile this weekend (three or four shows, one Saturday afternoon, this one and I think one or two on Sunday) which is nice because they were a mainstay at this place before Covid. They’re good if not bland. They do the Metallica songs everyone knows and nothing more. No deep cuts. But Metallica really don’t do deep cuts either. Damn I’d just like to see SOMEONE play Escape or Leper Messiah just once. The singer was pretty drunk so that added another layer to it, even if most of his tangents were “f*** Covid!”. I expect a lot of that in the next year. The only time he sounded rough was during One. The song choices were really lame but maybe they’re doing different sets for each show. I’m not complaining that I didn’t have to hear Nothing Else Matters. 1. Sad But True 2. Four Horsemen 3. Creeping Death 4. The Unforgiven 5. Seek & Destroy 6. Harvester of Sorrow 7. (Welcome Home) Sanitarium 8. The Thing That Should Not Be 9. One 10. Master of Puppets

Korrosive/Vesication Saturday July 24th, 2021 From the Rockpile in Toronto, Ontario Vesication are a tongue-in-cheek death grind band that I’ve seen a few times but it was different tonight. I saw a few shows late last year and a couple this year but this was the first band I saw (outside of a Type O Negative cover band last November) who I actually like the music and didn’t go to see just out of desperation. They don’t take anything too seriously but aside from the silly subject material they actually have chops. 1. Hungry, Hungry Herpes 2. Spread Beagle 3. Toddler Fondler 4. Nostre-Anus 5. Crouching Pink, Human Stink 6. Piss Shooting Dick Nipples 7. Shit Pipe Sundae 8. Piss in Your Face Fun Time 9. The Prolapse is Out There 10. Born With Two Dicks 11. Total Fecall 12. More Tits than Teeth 13. Regurgitate the Regret 14. Beauty and the Yeast Korrosive were one of the last bands I saw before the pandemic hit, at this very venue for their EP release show. Now they’re prepping to release their debut album next week. So things have come full circle. I’m not and never have been a thrash metal guy but there is some out there that I like and they’re one of them. They tore the Rockpile to pieces tonight. It’s too bad they only played eight songs but they really couldn’t keep their pace for much longer without dying on stage. No slow songs. No slow passages (except the intro to Raining Blood). Just speed and noise. 1. ? 2. Slaughter the Preacher 3. ? 4. Terminal Violence 5. Khaotic Evil 6. ? 7. Acidized 8. Raining Blood (Slayer cover) It was an indoor show but it was seated and that sucks for metal but I was happy to take another step TOWARDS HEALING. #togetherness Moreso I was glad to not have to see a cover band or a crummy local act, even though these bands are both from Toronto. They’re good local acts. Korrosive www.facebook.com/korrosivethrashVesication www.facebook.com/vesication
