I know we have a few Texas members here, so due to the big story today, I hope everybody is fine.
This is just insane. Not even a week after the festival in California.
But hey, thoughts & prayers and all that jazz.

If only we had more guns in this state.

It's also exactly who you thought would do it, been reported that he lived 8-10 hours away which meant that he deliberately went to El Paso to shoot it up.

Just gonna remind everyone to avoid referencing politics. No thinly-veiled references to anyone, and no "not to get political, but ..." comments.

I was 16 years old when Columbine happened, and that was the scariest thing ever at that time. Somebody going into a school with guns. I know there were shootings before, but never on that scale.
Remember when the big joke was disgruntled postal workers? That was a thing for a while. Only postal workers would go that crazy, hence the phrase, "going postal."
But look at the places that have been shot up, just in the past few years:
Schools Office buildings Concerts Festivals Nightclubs Shopping malls Sporting events Gaming events Softball game Churches Synagogues Mosques And a lot more.
This is absurd. This shouldn't be normal. We have more shootings than days in the year. And still, all we hear are thoughts and prayers. And the perpetrator must be mentally ill.
Not all of these people are mentally ill. Some are, no doubt. But when they leave behind or say that they did this because they hate blacks, jews, immigrants, muslims, or whoever, it is because they are flat out f***ing racist and xenophobic. Those aren't mental illnesses.
And for the life of me, why...WHY do normal citizens need these military grade weapons? They are not for hunting or any other reason other to kill as many people in the shortest amount of time possible.
If you need a gun for hunting or to protect your home, you do it with a handgun, shotgun, or rifle. Unless you are expecting an army of commandos or grizzly bears to storm your house, what the f*** do you need AR-15s and AK-47s for?

I understand why there’s not been many responses to this thread. There’s just not a whole lot you can say without breaking the rules. I’ll jusy say that it’s a shame that people can’t go to Walmart without fear of being murdered by some POS loser.

How sad is it that it is no longer surprising to read that somewhere in the US got shot up and a terrible amount of life has been lost for no f***ing reason.
I wonder what we'll be talking about tomorrow

I wonder what we'll be talking about tomorrow I know that things like this have gone on before 2012. You had the Columbine shooting. You had the Virginia Tech shooting. You even had other shootings in other schools in the late 1990s before Columbine. But ever since the 2012 theater shooting, it's become a thing. It's so sad and scary to even see that it's become normal.

If only we had more guns in this state. More guns clearly didn't prevent this situation. No, what we need here is for every citizen to always be armed with one grenade. That's the only way to truly prevent a situation like this from happening again.

There’s also been a mass shooting in Dayton. Nine people confirmed dead so far.

Well, it’s like 12 hours later and there’s a new one.
Isn’t it getting old yet, America?

Does the rest of the world look at us like we're f***ing idiots?
We are a country who did NOTHING after a classroom full of toddlers were blown apart with an assault rifle.
Thirteen hours. That's it.
This makes me physically sick. It's terrible that you can't even remember how many victims there were, or who the shooter was, or where the location was of these shootings, because they happen so often.
I'm sure those thoughts and prayers are going to kick in any time now.

I liked the one guy on tv who said, "If there were American citizens dying in groups from a virus, we would do everything in our power to stop it. Yet, we do nothing about this gun epidemic." I just heard that we've had 291 shootings in 216 days. I recall a certain somebody saying after Parkland that, "Something needs to be done about gun violence. I'm not scared of the gun lobby." Yeah, well...I guess the NRA made an offer he couldn't refuse. 😞

Please everyone, keep Politics out of it. Discussing a few things about potential gun control is acceptable, quotes from Trump (even if he’s not specifically named) are not.

I think the thing that just gets me is how there's pretty much a complete and utter apathy as the general response to this. Like, it's not even getting into the "tweet thoughts and prayers OKAY DONE" thing but it's like, literally what has to happen to provoke any sort of reaction in terms of regulation and what not because I'm pretty sure we've checked literally every possible combination by now.
