Chavo could hang with Eddie as part of Los Guerreros and really was the focal point of ECWWE when it had great booking and he was ECW Champ for a bit. I think he jobbed to Mark Henry (and began the World's Strongest Champion gimmick with Tony Atlas thanks to Chavo's selling) but he was treated like a big deal while he held that strap and it was being treated as a "World Title" at the time so I loved it as a Chavo fan. He knew how to work a match and I never skipped one of his, probably does my favorite European Uppercut and I think Cesaro is doing an homage to Chavo Jr. with his version.
Chavo's run as Cruiserweight Champ was better than Austin Aries' too, he was the king of putting ANYBODY over

One thing that sums up Chavo is the fact that after Eddie died Rey got the spot to honor Eddies legacy, not Eddies own nephew.
He was solid in the ring, had better mic skills than most but something just never clicked with him.

A good to very good hand and performer (his acting when losing his US title shot after Eddie died was superb) who turned himself into a punchline by taking shots at Cena, Rey and WWE, vastly overestimating his own worth all along.

Chavo's weird, because I recognize him as a good wrestler and above-average with charisma too.... but something about his booking or his presentation just BORED me. It might go all the way back to WCW, when he was in matches with luchadors I found much more intriguing, but he was booked to be above them. But his run in the cruiserweight division of WWE, too. Everything he did, I was like "Uh huh. Where's Tajiri?" I think in a way, he was miscast in the cruiserweight division. The division was built on being exciting and Chavo's ring style just didn't mesh with that. You can have a different style and have it work, like Helms did, but Chavo's style was just not exciting enough for that division.

He was in the Rumble that year as ECW champ so he could get a shot at a real world title.

I had completely forgot about Kerwin White. I don't care what anybody says that was a great gimmick as far as what it was supposed to be accomplishing. All of a sudden a Mexican guy from a very proud legendary Hispanic family wanted to throw it all away because he wants to be a stereotypical white guy. The golf cart entrance complete with caddy, this terrible knock off Frank Sinatra theme song, and the look with the blonde hair. It was brilliant. Sadly, that was Chavo's best/only shot to ever step out of Eddie's shadow. Him taking everything he stands for to become an upper-class white guy to get ahead seems like a surefire way to get heat(especially from Mexican Americans) and maybe even a IC/US title push to come out of it. It could've been his own version of "Lie, cheat, and steal." I could even picture a segment at one of the big four PPVs where Eddie and Kerwin crossed paths, where Eddie calls him a disgrace for selling out and Kerwin brushes it off saying he's above him. Unfortunately, Eddie's passing put a halt to any character progression the Kerwin White character might've had.

Unfortunately, Eddie's passing put a halt to any character progression the Kerwin White character might've had. At the time I also couldn't wait for Eddie to finally catch him backstage at a ppv and get in his face over his new persona. I know the Kerwin White character is universally panned but I thought it was brilliant. If he won the US or IC title he could have gotten heat by saying things like, I only got ahead in this business as a white man because only the white man gets ahead in this world. Like you said that gimmick was the only chance Chavo ever had to get out of Eddie's shadow and it was cut way too short. I think if it had been given some time to take off the gimmick would be remembered more fondly.

Funnily enough I think it could be argued that GLOW is utilizing Chavo's talents as a wrestler arguably better than many promotions did, with numerous cast members crediting him as being an effective trainer and guide for the cast on the show.
If nothing else going from jobbing to Hornswoggle every week to being a crucial part of a critically acclaimed television dramedy in 10 years is impressive upward mobility.
