My girlfriend's been out of town for the last 11 days so I've had a lot of time to watch old ppvs lately (c'mon NFL season!) I am currently watching SummerSlam 2007 and I'm wondering what is Chavo Guerrero's legacy? It seems as if in the build-up to this match Chavo is to be taken as a serious threat which I know he was from time to time. However a majority of the time it seemed like he was there to eat everybody's pins. But he seems to be fairly respected around the industry, I've met him before and he was super nice. What does everybody else think of Chavo? I know he gets a lot of jokes around here but how are most people going to remember him?

I feel like, for better or worse, Chavo's career can be summed up as "I have wrestled Eddie a lot of times. I have also wrestled Chavo."

I mentioned it in another recent thread. Yes he's the "other" Guerrero, but I never felt comfortable shitting on Chavo due to him being very involved and connected to the two big tragedies. I was actually really happy for him when he won the ECW title, even though he defeated Punk.

I feel like, for better or worse, Chavo's career can be summed up as "I have wrestled Eddie a lot of times. I have also wrestled Chavo." Yeah. I mean, Chavo's had a pretty successful career himself - one that the vast majority of wrestlers would kill to have - but he'll always be in Eddie's shadow.

I mean, if you watch Kurt's clip with context, he's trying to put over Chavo as a talent comparable to Eddie, but just the fact that he has to make the comparison to begin with says more than Kurt's words do.

He was a good utility player, but just never had enough to be more. His peak, I feel, was as a part of the Smackdown Six.

Honestly? It ought to be as Rey's chief rival, probably.
It's not Eddie. Rey rarely was presented as on Eddie's level.
Maybe Ultimo? But Ultimo usually had Rey's number.
Chavo and Rey were largely on parity. Chavo beat his ass in the I Quit match in WWE, but obviously, Rey got his licks in and then some.
You can't really discuss Rey's cruiserweight career without Chavo, Malenko, and Psicosis as his big rivalries, with a coin toss on if it should be Psicosis or Chavo as the tough choice.

Chavo’s aunt got more reaction from two words than Chavo ever did. He’s a really good worker but he was just so bland as a personality. Granted anyone who teamed with Eddie, who is one of the most charismatic wrestlers ever, would look bland standing next to him but Chavo just didn’t stand out at all.

He's an acceptable wrestler... with decent charisma and comedic timing.
his biggest problem has always been "He's not Eddie" and he was always going to be compared to Eddie who is legitimately one of the most Charismatic wrestlers of all times.

I feel like, for better or worse, Chavo's career can be summed up as "I have wrestled Eddie a lot of times. I have also wrestled Chavo." I hate that this was the first thing that I thought, but it was. Chavo deserves better, but that line was just SO brutal.

He was a passable in every single way, but nothing stood out, and his promos always felt a bit meh.
Plus he was one of those dudes who was in multiple shadows, and the shadows of people he was in were all MUCH better at what they did.
Even in LU I never could take him seriously, and I think that's about the best he could be used. It always felt like he was taking up a spot that someone more talented could be filling.
Dude could wrestle, no doubt, but beyond that he was just boring. And you compare him to Eddie and Rey and the guy is even moreso.
A good hand, but never would have achieved the success he had if not for who he was related to since I don't think he had the tools to pull it off on his own.

Chavo and Rey always had great chemistry together but 90% of the time you knew who was going to win. The one that still bothers me the most is Rey's last SmackDown before leaving to have bicep surgery in February 2008. Rey admits on camera he's leaving because he has a torn bicep and he's going to be out for a while. He then proceeds to beat Chavo clean for no reason. Even with a torn bicep Chavo couldn't beat Rey. To make matters worse Chavo was the ECW Champion at the time.

Chavo is a perfectly fine guy with a solid midcard career who will forever be looked at as having not big enough a career because he's standing next to a giant. If his name was Chavo Dudeson he would be in a way better place.

He peaked with Los Guerreros. Not his fault, he's just terrible on the mic and needed Eddie.
