Featuring special guest Maximilian Dood.
Was already familiar with most of this but still find the story of this game pretty fascinating. Really feels like every wrong choice they could have made they did.
That said they completely gloss over the stupid bullshit that for some reason Marvel wouldn't allow their characters and Capcom ones to share voice actors.

What happened was that it stunk.
Who could forget the classic line from them "No one knows who the X-Men are."
When you mention Wolverine, people aren't thinking of the animal. They're thinking of the guy with a Metal skeleton

This pretty much as to be Capcom bottoming out in terms of their major releases in the past decade. They've made a hell of a comeback since with the likes of Mega Man 11, DMC5, and Monster Hunter World, but MvCI is probably the last significant example of a period where the company was really misjudging their audiences tastes.

The game was completely devoid of any personality. Bland roster, bland art style, bland story. Everything was just a gray mush

Doesn`t help that most of the marketing was
"LOOK HOW GOOD OUR STORY IS GONNA BE"
And it wasnt even good. Much less comparable to Injustice.

MVCI was an attempt to make a Marvel vs Capcom fighting game without any of the things people like about MvC games. Or Capcom fighting games in general. Between that and Marvel Comics being at its pettiest state regarding usage of characters that couldn't be part of the MCU, it was a doomed game.
Really, it'd be so much better if they pretended MVCI never existed and make an MvC4 with a similar roster to MvC2 or UMvC3 and add some new favorites like Ant-Man, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Spider-Gwen, and Black Panther. And G from Street Fighter V because he needs to be everywhere.

One thing I have to wonder if you do something like that: Given he's getting somewhat of a push nowadays, if you include the Miles Morales Spider-Man, do you make him a normal Spidey alt with different voice and such or his own playable (which could be seen, with three Spider-Power based characters, as oversaturation like with all the Bat characters in the Injustice games)? Also, you put in Captain Marvel...I want the current Ms. Marvel in there. Stretchy AND size change powers.

Terrible game, and deserved every bit of hate. Especially considering how good the previous installments had been.

At least he has a few different powers

If you can have like 6 different shoto clones in the same game, you can have a few different people with Spider-Powers. I'd put Miles in as his own character.
And then put in Ultimate/ItSV's Prowler while we're at it.

Capcom half assed another fighting game and thought the name itself would carry it. Gladly people wised up and didn't fall for it.

Another thing that may have also hurt Infinite's chances was Capcom re-releasing Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 for PS4 and XBOX1 a few months before the release of Infinite.
Why bother to play the half assed game missing all of your favorite functions characters, when you can play the more complete predecessor on current gen hardware.

Both this and Street Fighter X Tekken show that introducing ability/trait-manipulating stones/gems/etc. are the worst thing to do for any game. Fight Games live and die on the most hardcore of fans, and adding variables that give a false sense of option (it instead makes the game deliberately cookie cutter) takes away from the features that would otherwise make it enjoyable.

Who looked at that initial Chun-Li design and said, "Yeah, they'll be cool with this." Put that person's name out there so the rest of the industry can avoid them.

The game was completely devoid of any personality. Bland roster, bland art style, bland story. Everything was just a gray mush Here's another one: The Music. I mean the dryest over used Capcom tracks, generic "Epic" themes for Marvel and they managed to screw up "Central Highway" and "X vs. Zero".

At least it had Haggar, as Capcom, for some reason, won't ever put him in a Street Fighter game.
