It's weird that we gotta hope somebody doesn't shoot to the moon in this company. Like, you want them to get into space but you never want them to moon walk lol. That’s…the most weirdly appropriate way to put it.

Becky as the top heel seems like an odd choice at first but I’m willing to give it a shot. It actually probably means Vince has even more faith in Bianca as she will now be the top face, which she wouldn’t be if Becky didn’t turn.

Of course, it’s understandable if people are skeptical that Bianca’s gonna make it out of this angle okay, given similar past instances of top faces getting squashed so easily not really getting a chance to get back on top (namely, Kofi and the Lesnar squash). Not helping matters is WWE’s heel-centric booking where faces are left chasing while the bad guys dominate.

I wish WWE could be the emotional rollercoaster as a piece of fiction that it is as a thing to follow on a meta level.

I wish WWE could be the emotional rollercoaster as a piece of fiction that it is as a thing to follow on a meta level. And people within WWE will be like "OH YOU STINKY INTERNET FANS YOU'RE THE ROOT OF THIS IF YOU'D JUST LIKE RYBACK'S CONSTIPATION GIMMICK OOOH" like no, WWE didn't have to book on this layered meta bullshit style with the thinnest, laziest, lackadaisical plots garnished on top that conditioned their audience to not participate in the story, but to read it on a metatextual like anti-story way, like "Oh man I hope Bianca doesn't get buried by Becky too much" is my feeling this week, and that's completely uninvested in whatever the "real" storytelling will be. It's like if Marvel twisted its audience in such a way that people are watching Spider-Man No Way Home like "Oh I hope they don't bury Doctor Strange, I want him to look strong before his movie." then Tom Holland does a worked shoot promo breaking character completely as he calls out Robert Downey Jr. for his booking of Iron Man. It's an utterly bizarre form of storytelling WWE goes further and further into. Like wrestling storytelling isn't hard. It's not that deep or complicated. It doesn't need to be like this.

That came back for a chance to make history. That books itself. No we need to add shoot work shit into it.

Reminds of an interview Tarantino did and a piece from it keeps popping into my head now and he describes it in a very short manner about how Hollywood did tell stories and how they no longer do and it is everything about WWE's direction creatively exactly.
And I am just paraphrasing here...."Hollywood used to be the best at telling stories but now they are the worst at it because they no longer tell stories they tell situations".

This is shit I did as a joke in a thread like two years ago. That stands out to me as so ridiculous because nothing else works like this. What's the biggest 'backstage drama' out of the MCU right now? Scarlett Johannsen's lawsuit over them releasing Black Widow in a way that f***ed her out of royalties. A normal show business problem to be addressed, and that's not something bleeding over into what we see. People complain about Star Wars being rudderless right now, but they put out a new show and it's event viewing that isn't really leaving the kinds of aftertastes a WWE PPV does with its missteps. Wrestling does have weird considerations that other media don't have, but there's still so much about how WWE does it and the way they go all in on really destructive decisions with startling regularity that makes it something special. They'll do shit like HIAC ending in ref stoppage and think it's big cool hot shit. Like I hate to truck out comparisons elsewhere, but generally, if people are this completely browbeaten and pessimistic about your stories, it's the fault of your stories. The more time people spend hemming and hawing about your show on a meta level, the less compelling it means your actual show is.

Also, Bianca's gone through pretty much the entire Smackdown Heel hierarchy so either there's going to be a giant overhaul via the Draft or Bianca's likely getting sent over to Raw after her feud with Becky.

That came back for a chance to make history. That books itself. No we need to add shoot work shit into it. It's so f***ing simple to book.
-Cena returns, cuts a promo on Smackdown criticizing Roman's status as face of the company and blasts him for how he conducts himself, acting as if he owns the place.
-Cena's intentions of coming back are not only to make history, but to humble Roman Reigns.
-Cena talks about how "protected" Roman is (in the sense of being the poster boy of WWE, having Paul Heyman as his representative, and The Usos by his side). Talks about how Roman tries to intimidate others & manipulate everything in his favor (while also calling him out for his constant gaslighting).
-Roman comes out & addresses Cena's return. Roman says he's heard what Cena said, and in a sense, he is right about him being "protected". Roman brags, saying he's the face of the company, the Head of the Table, the Tribal Chief. He says that THIS is his Island, and he's the one who calls the shots. You know, his usual "Head of the Table" schtick.
-Cena cuts him off, telling him he's heard that crap for nearly a year, and he's sick of it. Cena then proclaims that he's here to put a stop to it and show Roman Reigns what a true champion is all about (hustle, loyalty, respect). Cena says enough is enough, and it's about time someone finally puts Reigns in his place.
-Roman then issues a warning to Cena, saying something like "So you wanna put me in my place, huh? You know how many people have already tried that, John? Look, the way I see it, you've got 2 choices: You can either fall in line, accept the fact times have changed & acknowledge me as the face of the company, or we can do this the hard way. You can step into this ring with me and face the same fate as many others did before you, and be forced to acknowledge me. You see, for months on end, many people tried to step up to take THIS from me. And you know what happened? They all fell before me. I walked down that aisle, into this ring, and I smashed them. I crushed them. I demolished them. I pinned them. I submitted them. I MADE them acknowledge me. Let's face it, John. I'm unbeatable, I'm unstoppable, I'm untouchable.".
-Cena, with a smirk on his face says, "So, you think you're untouchable?", then follows it up by punching Roman right square in the face. A brawl ensues between both men, and are eventually separated by officials to end off the segment. Boom, feud kickstarted!

It took that Batley feud, the Bayley who just lost the title, with the whole obstacle course basketball thing, it took that feud to elevate Bianca. A Bayley feud before she won the belt and after. It took her Rumble win in order for her to elevate her and what an amazing win it was. It took that insanely amazing Sasha feud to elevate her, the same Sasha who beat the super long reigning champion aka her former friend Bayley. It took all of that in order to bring Bianca to this pure level. Then Becky squashes her in seconds and now you mean to tell me that Becky is a heel and you want this feud to raise Bianca to a level higher than her previous level? Bruh, if took so much to get her to where she was before and now they wanna do the task of going even higher. The only way they do this is if Becky is an amazing heel (she isn't, she's trash) and this is a feud that lasts from now until WM and Bianca has some sort of D- Oh...my...god...that's it...it happened at Summerslam and now it's to... They are trying to do a Daniel Bryan 2013-2014 thing here...and it isn't going to work. Idiots.

They realized fans hate super strong and squash matchea,ao they think it for heat. Basically wwe booka bad matches and stories for "heat" Not really, there's a difference between beating down faces and getting heat and then the "Daniel Bryan method" they use. I forgot who but once Meltzer said they were trying the "Daniel Bryan" method on a face to get somebody over which is basically beating somebody down so bad and doing everything they can to keep someone away from a title in order for all of the fans to rally behind said wrestler. If it works you get the Daniel Bryan rise and if it doesn't work it looks like bad booking. In the company's eyes they think what got Bryan over was that method and his Yes Chant which went mainstream, they didn't think it was Bryan himself. So my comment was basically said it sounds like they might be trying the Daniel Bryan Method here given they're turning Becky of all people heel, making Bianca look bad and according to reports this is in order to somehow elevate Bianca higher, which probably won't work.
Now that I think about it...I think it was Reigns who they tried to use the Daniel Bryan Method on. Around 2015-2016 there was a period where yeah he won matches but he kept getting his ass kicked afterwards, kept being screwed over by The League of Nations and The Authority and whatnot and in the end he lashed out on em. I think that's when they did it. The problem with Reigns is that when it was over people got onto him again because they saw the booking. It was wild.

Who the hell wants to watch the kinda show where they need to keep that energy up to prove they like someone? That's exhausting. If I want to have to prove over and over again that no really I like something, I'll just go pay attention to my cats. Trying to do it against Becky, who people want to cheer for anyway, is also such a terrible idea.

Trying to do it against Becky, who people want to cheer for anyway, is also such a terrible idea. That was some of the worst television ever. We already knew what the deal was with Reigns and the fact they tried to do the same thing with him as they did with the fan favorite Bryan ughhhh, it sucked. The idea that they gotta go all meta-kayfabe to get somebody over is so bad. They didn't really need to do that with Drew and it worked well but I guess they forgot about how things truly are. At the end of the day, if a storyline is great then it doesn't matter if there's any type of meta-kayfabe aura around it. If it works it works. Tbh, the only time that type of style worked recently was with Kofi and one reason is that he had a good opponent which was the previous guy who did amazing with it, Daniel Bryan, and his character was completely entrenched into his Planet's Champion character. With a good opponent you can then focus on the fact that Kofi's taken 10 years to reach that level and boom, it writes it self. You need a protagonist, a good opponent AND the story to make it work and each of those variables are so delicle. It just doesn't work most cases. As for Reigns, they really thought they could trick us into thinking they truly hated him. A 6'5, 265 pound guy in one of the most popular groups in WWE history who's a cousin of the Rock and has a few cool moves who you guys have built from the ground up. You really think that you can make us believe you guys truly hate this man? Come on now.
With this program, ugh that's going to be rough. As hard and as much as Becky's worked since coming to the company, even before, she's never been a believable heel. When she and Sasha teamed together in NXT Becky looked lame. Even when Becky tried to be a tweener as The Man and she tried to use the heel side of her character, fans cheered. It ain't gonna work here. We're really gonna get "the cool heel making fun of everyone" and I'm sick of that.

100% guaranteed it's going to fall flat on its face. For starters, they're doing an angle they've repeated before, so it's gonna bore the ever-loving shit out of the fans & push them from being invested in the story. Then you've got Becky playing the role of heel, which makes no bloody sense because the fans are going to be behind her no matter what. Add in the fact that they're making Bianca look bad in an attempt to garner sympathy, and you've got a recipe for failure. This is going to do more damage than any good.

X-Pax talked about this on his podcast. It was a dumb decision all around If you going to position Becky Lynch as a heel, make the cheap shot actually look cheap. Have her use a weapon or something. For all intents and purposes you punked out Bianca and Becky celebrated like a face while Bianca pouted It was a swing and big miss for execution for what you wanted us to believe

Think with X-Pac, has to be said, he’s been involved in some weird career botches of his own in WWF and WCW, the biggest likely being turning on Kane in 1999 and basically setting off the chain of events that lead to “X-Pac heat” being a thing.
So if there’s a guy who knows what a dumb booking decision looks like, it’d be X-Pac.

So...
Meltzer in WON said that, as I said, Becky's squash of Bianca was intended to generate sympathy for Bianca and to eventually make her a bigger babyface. While fans saw it was a burial, the company's intention was that this was part of their plans to raise her up somehow. The squash is the start of Becky's heel turn too.
So..yeah...this is the Daniel Bryan 2013-2014 storyline/Roman Reigns 2015-2016 storyline all over again. They're having Bianca look like crap and she's going to keep getting crapped on until the end. This is the start of her being destroyed by Becky.
This company sucks.
