The obvious comparison is obviously early Baron Corbin. Tall, lanky, long hair, lots of tattoos, gritty street thug kind of gimmick... That kind of thing. But there’s something there with Priest where, it’s like he doesn’t have to try to be cool, it just comes across really natural that he just IS. Corbin in comparison, when they were still playing his original gimmick completely straight, seems like a bit of an edgelord, and it was better for him in the long run that he leaned towards being more of a goofy jock dickhead. My immediate first reaction was “Baron Corbin with kicks.” But his presentation is excellent. The moment I saw his first entrance I was sold. He also shoots the arrow into the tron hanging above the ring. The only thing I don’t like about him is the awful back tattoo... and I’m not normally one to criticize tats, but this one isn’t my favorite.

I'll be in the extreme minority here, but I think Punishment Martinez is a far better name than Damian Priest. It sounds like if Speedy Gonzales and Slowpoke Rodriguez had a vigilante cousin.

Why are people always so down on Roll the Dice?
When snapped off quickly I think it looks quite good. It was legit one of my first favorite finishers when Test was started doing it back in the day. Priest’s looks good. Dunne helped with the death sell.
OTOH, when done badly it’s quite a flat finisher. I’ve never liked Cross Rhodes because Cody doesn’t give the move a lot of snap.

His true finisher should be Arrow Pose from corner —> Then his cyclone kick/big boot.

They're definitely on the right track with prioritizing his look and presentation more than his matches, because that's always been his thing. He just looks like someone you would never want to f*** with ever.

I like the move well enough, but I think it hurts it some that a lot of people do it in wrestling. Then again, way more people use flatliners of different descriptions, so it's not THAT proliferated.

Yay, not often you can say the move from ROH to WWE is a huge step up (creatively/use) but they are making freakin Punishment Martinez interesting. I’m stunned. Wait.. what do you mean the move from ROH to WWE isn’t a step up?

He just looks like someone you would never want to f*** with ever. This might be why NXT is the best place for him. Sure, a lot of high-end talent passes through, but one of the things they've been good at (even if weekly TV moves to slow for some) is that typically everybody has context that just fades away on RAW or SD. His presence works if there's a reason for him to be there. And it's early days for him, so they've got plenty of time to establish that.

Wait.. what do you mean the move from ROH to WWE isn’t a step up? When it comes to how you are presented, yeah. ROH has its faults no doubt but WWE’s history, just over the same time ROH has been around, has been more miss than hit.

I feel like that is a pretty dated opinion ever since Punk blew the lid off of that. Tons of guys have come from ROH and become big stars.

His entrance and appearance are definitely good, but what the f*** does "Archer of Infamy" even mean?

It's that New York swag lol You can see it in his mannerisms like this is natural too him Yeah he's making it look effortless so it works with the character. With Corbin it was like they tried to make him cool but the reality is sure he was a little cool at times but that was based on his moves rather than his look and his walk. Priest just has that image part down.

A guy who walks around talking shit while some people respect it while others roll their eyes like this guy With Priest, he walks in like he is the coolest dude in the room and doesn't give a f*** what you think. As I said before, that bow and arrow pose can look real corny on the wrong person but he makes that shit look so legit because he does it with his confidence

He got it. And yeah that's true about Corbin. The coolest part about him are his moves. That Deep Six is nasty.

Am I missing something here? I don't find him natural at all. His "swagger" seems super forced to me. I found him to be awkward and stiff. I saw him as a cross between Judas masias and Vance archer. I'll give it time but so far don't get the hype.
