It’s hard not get caught up in the emotion of Cody finally winning. But that cash-in, and all that led up yo it, was my highlight of Mania. Everything about it was perfect.

It might be fabricated, if so I don't care. It's professional wrestling. But I love that voice crack when Priest is announced as cashing in.

I remember being at ROH house shows and thinking “Ya know, I bet Punishment Martinez is gonna get a look from WWE.”
Never in my wildest imagination did I expect him to end up as the world champ.
Kudos to him, man.

I hope he keeps it for a while but with Punk around I don’t feel good about it.

Yeah, particularly if Drew is signing a new contract. I have to believe he already has, otherwise why have him beat Seth clean as a sheet? Since the belt would be going to Priest, anyway, maybe. Like, if anything, teasing furthering things with Punk is the bigger indicator to me that he's probably staying.

Gives Priest a solid 2 and a half month reign and successful defences at Backlash and KOTR then Drew gets his big moment in Scotland. Also makes sense to have Drew face a heel there since he’ll be so over. Kinda like Rhea/Nia at EC. No point making a babyface go out there and get booed out the building against the hometown guy. I wouldn’t be shocked if when he loses the title Finn costs him or turns on him after. I’m not sure the current JD incarnation will all stay together much longer. Finn could easily be jealous of Damien now after spending all last summer failing to get the title himself.

So, I mentioned this in the main Mania thread, but back in 2017 in Hopkins, Minnesota at an ROH show I saw Punishment Martinez (fresh off the awful Sullivan/Whitmer pairing after Corino left) vs a pre-Switchblade Jay White. Both enter to largely indifference from the crowd, but by the end got a damn near standing ovation.
I knew that night, if given the chance and striking the right chord, both could and will do amazing things.
Been a fan of Damien since he was a stand-out in the 2016 ROH Top Prospect tournament (probably the best they ever did) and especially after how likable he was in QT Marshall's mid-2010s documentary 'The Wrestler' where a young pre-ROH Martinez/Priest just absolutely steals the show with how likable as a prospective wrestler he is.
The man debuted in 2005 (not a typo) and just kept at it and here his stands now on the verge of turning 42-years-old and he's won his first world championship and he did it at Wrestlemania.
Never, ever, ever, EVER give up on your dreams. Ever. Never let the difficulty reaching those dreams change who you are or how you treat people. Ever.
The more I think about it, the more feel good I feel.

Meanwhile in the mirror universe Priest lost his cash-in because he just couldn't control his DAMIAN SIDE.

So, is Priest actually bisexual, or did Twitter just decide he was for shits and giggles? From what I understand it's mainly because of the visuals with him really. Like he looks and carries himself a bit more flamboyantly than Undertaker, and thus people started viewing him as "Undertaker, but if he was openly bisexual" and thus "Bisexual Undertaker" was born.

Meanwhile you have the thread when his signing was announced where everyone was crapping on him. officialfan.proboards.com/thread/578724/punishment-martinez-signs-wweI never got the hate tbh. He was Dalton Castle's first ROH title feud and they absolutely brought the best out of each other. Beyond his own match abilities, his selling is super underrated too. Jeff Cobb squashing him for the ROH TV title essentially made his career. I love Cobb, but do think Martinez being his size and still selflessly making Cobb's moves all look so devastating on the way out was a tremendous boost. EDIT: Holy shit I'm the very first response in this thread and it reminded me of the mountain of charity outreach work he did for ROH even as a heel. Once again, I've been absolved by history.
