So, I mentioned this in the main Mania thread, but back in 2017 in Hopkins, Minnesota at an ROH show I saw Punishment Martinez (fresh off the awful Sullivan/Whitmer pairing after Corino left) vs a pre-Switchblade Jay White. Both enter to largely indifference from the crowd, but by the end got a damn near standing ovation. I knew that night, if given the chance and striking the right chord, both could and will do amazing things. Been a fan of Damien since he was a stand-out in the 2016 ROH Top Prospect tournament (probably the best they ever did) and especially after how likable he was in QT Marshall's mid-2010s documentary 'The Wrestler' where a young pre-ROH Martinez/Priest just absolutely steals the show with how likable as a prospective wrestler he is. The man debuted in 2005 (not a typo) and just kept at it and here his stands now on the verge of turning 42-years-old and he's won his first world championship and he did it at Wrestlemania. Never, ever, ever, EVER give up on your dreams. Ever. Never let the difficulty reaching those dreams change who you are or how you treat people. Ever. The more I think about it, the more feel good I feel. I never saw a super huge amount of him in ROH, but generally enjoyed what I saw. Meanwhile you have the thread when his signing was announced where everyone was crapping on him. officialfan.proboards.com/thread/578724/punishment-martinez-signs-wweI went thru this expecting to see an old take of mine that I'd wince at but instead I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to reach that level of enlightened posting ever again

So, is Priest actually bisexual, or did Twitter just decide he was for shits and giggles? From what I understand it's mainly because of the visuals with him really. Like he looks and carries himself a bit more flamboyantly than Undertaker, and thus people started viewing him as "Undertaker, but if he was openly bisexual" and thus "Bisexual Undertaker" was born. It’s the cleavage windows on his singlet.

Honestly I think the only reason I ever wrote off Punishment Martinez was his absolutely God awful name.

Just watched it back and I love how genuinely thrilled you can tell Judgment Day is. Rhea in particular is just jumping up and down losing her mind.

It's cool that Cody finally finished the story, but this was my feel good moment of the night. The man put in the work, and has knocked every opportunity out of the park.
Not many people get to have that kinda of moment this late into their professional career, but I'm glad it happened, and at WM no less.

I think he's a complete goon, but that was such an incredibly well booked moment.

Judgement Day managed to survive being Spooky Local Heels with Edge. The I'm going to take my name seriously and be your angle or your devil gimmick killed like all of his momentum, and then the I want to be the ministry but also insult sports team Judgement Day was going nowhere. The Judgment day transforming into a bunch of dorky goth assholes was perfect for him... and he is absolutely a dorky goth the man dressed up as f***ing Skeletor when he won Money In The Bank.

Priest has done some absolutely stellar work going back the last 2 years or so. Good to see him get his moment, even if it's for a short time

It's good, I actually felt happy for him. And he already has a support group for when DM Hunk starts sending the hate.

Still don't believe people who tell me this guy was Punishment Martinez It's been a real mixed bag overall for its decade+ existence but if there's a guy who should be seen as a Performance Centre success story, it's Punishment Martinez. He's actually become somebody after being somehow the most lackluster part of an ROH lull period.

Punishment Martinez always sounded like the fake name Fire Pro Wrestling would have for someone based on an actual person.
“Good news everybody, you can play as Punishment Martinez and Ice Rock Steam Odin!”

After looking like the biggest f***ing idiot on the planet for months, at least he won a belt. He finally read the instructions on how the briefcase works. maybe he forgot the combination >_>

I knew the guy wasn't a spring chicken, and I know people are able to maintain their skills later in life these days (see AJ Styles), but I did not realize the man is 41 years old!

1: Love how happy Judgment Day is for Priest
2: Like the sound of two belts hitting each other
3: Dom is such an asshole telling Cathy to leave
4: You know Cathy was sad when Rhea waved goodbye to her

First time I ever saw Damian was at a Hammerstein Ballroom ROH show; Punishment Martinez and the Briscoes vs the Hung Bucks. Never would've believed he'd become a world champion, least of all at WrestleMania. He's one of the very few indie dudes who I think has improved by adapting the WWE style, and he doesn't seem like a bad guy at all so kudos to him.

You'd think they'd want to try and actually establish this "World" championship. Priest has not been built and has cooled off significantly since 6 months or so ago. This just underlines the belt not being on a level with the actual, real World championship. I felt that way before it actually happened, but having seen how it went down it certainly came off extremely well and felt like a big deal. I think it’ll actually boost Priest up, rather than bring the belt down.
