Sane is actually kinda funny in the Japanese promos, she comes across as a big suck up to Asuka. Yeh not sure who speaks ajapanese here but she was full " HAHAHAHAA BIG SIS ASUKA YOU ARE SO FUNNY" and trying to imitate her over the top act.

You know what I'd like to see? A match where a wrestler blocks or dodges Asuka's mist and thinking they're safe only for Kairi to mist them instead.

She has used it prior to coming to WWE. It's something wrestlers in Japan still use. Bushi in New Japan does it. Kagetsu and Andras Miyagi use it in Stardom.

Let's get to brass tax, is this use of mist leading the long anticipated return of Kwang as the mentor to the Kabuki Warriors or not?

Yeh Asuka whole bit is that she was acting over the top and using a dialect that ia considered very outstanding and loud in Jaan.

I dunno, Kairi's stomp to the corner ending with an eye-poke was very well done and so unexpected.

What a weird thing for people to take issue with. A Japanese wrestler, who used mist while wrestling in Japan, mimicking another Japanese wrestler she idolizes, using mist in WWE. Literally the “in WWE” part is the only reason anyone takes issue. This is why Vince used to make people garbage men, pig farmers and clowns and shit.
Hell, in that case, all the luchadors wearing masks are stereotypes and should take them off. New Day needs to stop dancing. And if they ever sign Jacob Fatu, they should give him an ice cream man gimmick.

The thing is, if everyone was completely subverting every stereotype, then people would be saying "Why aren't they being allowed to represent their culture?" Some people are gonna see it as racism in either direction.

My only issue is that it makes the refs look like absolute dumbasses. Asuka's mouth is completely green and her opponent is covered in it. Can you not put two and two together John Cone? Referee's will/should always be Kayfabe incompetent, they live in the same Universe as a laughtrack sitcom charecter(s) who overhear 5 seconds of conversation and think someone is having an affair/planning to fire a tenant or something awful when it's just like a surprise party And that was just the first episode of The Raccoons!

Kairi should NOT be a heel Normally I'd agree because I love the pirate princess deal, but she's been GREAT as a heel so far though. Her mannerisms as a heel are through the roof awesome. She was fun playing heel on Lucha Underground too

Okay, maybe this will clarify my point of what I mean by a stereotype. For something to be stereotypical, there is a cultural context to that, which there isn't with using the mist. There's no non-wrestling context for that, though, so while it could be considered a cliche, it doesn't fit to call it a stereotype. Giving all or most black wrestlers rap themes? That's playing into stereotypes. A ton of stuff they did with Kaientai, like the bad dubbing, Mr. Yamaguchi has a business man in a way that really lined up with "yellow peril" fears of Japanese economic influence, etc. Or WM 9's super stereotypical "tourist" they interview in the audience that was seemingly a plant speaking incredibly broken english and snapping pictures, to try to hype Yokozuna up as some big Japanese cultural icon, for another example. Hell, you could argue that MJF having a gimmick of a very affluent person is playing into stereotypes on account of him being Jewish, though I think he skirts that line well without crossing it. It'd be like if I said Lucha House Party doing armdrags was stereotypical because they're such a lucha mainstay associated with many hispanic wrestlers. That'd be absurd, right? But if I said having the pinata was playing into stereotypes, that'd make more sense. We on the same page now? OK, yes, that does clear it up. (I'd disagree a little bit and say the mist thing does play into the Mysterious Exotic Asian thing, but it's mostly taken on a life of its own and is eensy compared to other things.) Thanks for your patience. Personally, I don't have a problem with Asuka using the mist, but I'm disappointed by the way the interesting parts of both characters has been shaved off. Like, "Kabuki Warriors" is a stupid name aside from stereotypes. Kairi has no connection to Kabuki except for being Japanese, and "warriors" is just a generic filler of a word that adds nothing and doesn't even sound cool.

Okay, here's a WWE one for you. Hornswoggle did the mist, too. That satisfy you, or...? I just don't understand the point. It's undeniable that there is an association between using the mist and being Japanese in wrestling. Right? A higher proportion of people who use the mist are Japanese than we would expect to happen by chance. Fans know this and associate the mist with being Japanese. This is not really arguable. So I think you're just using a definition of "stereotype" where, like, if every single Japanese person ever doesn't use the mist, then it's not a stereotype... and you could defend that, I guess, but it's a weird way of using that term. Isn't the more important thing just that people associate the thing with the social grouping, period? I also just kind of don't get why this is even worth defending. I don't see this particular stereotype as even being particularly harmful (beyond the whole "Asians are exotic!" thing which is a bridge we've long since already crossed) so what's it matter that it's a stereotype? The mist is most known in Japan with Muta, Asuka used the mist when she was working in Japan, and a lot of Japanese wrestlers in Japan have used the mist as tribute to Muta. Great Muta is one of the most iconic puro wrestlers in Japanese history as well as one of the first puro wrestlers to gain traction internationally.
The only thing stereotypical about it is when the commentators call it the "Asian Mist" and that's not the fault of the people using it. And if they called it the "Muta Mist" like they call certain Spinebusters the "Double A Spinebuster" it'd be the same exact thing. Calling it stereotypical in general is a disservice to the workers using it to pay tribute to a major influence of theirs.
