OK, Sid was average at absolute best in the ring and he was, by all accounts, a total jerk who believed that his shit didn't stink when he was being groomed as the top guy in WCW.
But, my god, I'll be damned if I didn't love the whole 'Millenium Man' shtick where Sid just would walk down to the ring and just powerbomb everybody in sight while Charles Robinson followed him around for whatever reason.
Sid just oozed this wild charisma about him, it genuinely came across like he was a loose cannon and, considering what he did to Arn Anderson with a pair of scissors, maybe that wasn't a gimmick? But I think Sid is a prime example of someone who should've absolutely been a chore to watch due to his average ring work, and yet wound up being insanely entertaining just by being a flat out lunatic who liked to powerbomb cruiserweights.

He was god awful in the ring for the most part, but man, his late '96 WWF run was nuclear (thanks in part to Shawn Michaels behaving like an absolute f***ing c***). The reaction he of all people was getting in MSG at Survivor Series that year was insane.

You don't need to be good if you have that much charisma and presence.

Did anyone else initially misread the first part of this thread as "I know he crapped in the ring"?
If Sid weren't the subject I don't think my mind would leap to that, but I'm not entirely sure.
Yeah, Sid was the definition of charismatic. Even in early ECW, where the crowds were often hostile to the very nature of WWF and WCW, when Sid showed up the crowds went nuts. He gets your attention and interest that easily.

I think all of our love for Sid dates back to when we first saw him snarling in Hulk Hogan's face. He seemed like the real deal, and he has entertained us ever since with his zany ways. His work with the Skyscrapers was when I first got on board, however.

His squash matches are go-to's for me on youtube or the network. Whether early WCW, the first WWF run, or that short second WCW run, they are always great. In the late 90s is when his in-ring limitations became more noticeable because of how he was being used. I love Sid in short matches where he kills people. It's when WWF or WCW tried to put him in those regular length PPV matches that things went haywire. That said, HBK managed to pull good to great matches out of him, but that's because we're talking prime HBK for pete's sake.

Come to think of it, he was basically that generations Batista. Nothing great in the ring (though I find Bats underrated in that regard), but chock full of charisma in the ring and meme potential out of it.

Sid killing jobbers who then get carried out on a stretcher is pretty much entirely responisble for my being a wrestling fan.

I thought he was fine enough in the ring. Like, he did most everything right he needed to in order to be Sid.

SID is quite possibly my favorite wrestler of all time. Him hilariously strolling in on matches and wrecking people, murderizing jobbers, and being hilarious is fun and wrestling needs more fun. He’s the one dude that I’d be fine with showing up anywhere and kicking ass.

Sid is what an average person imagines a pro wrestler to be. A big, loud, stupid, somewhat unathletic man who is oddly intimidating yet hilarious. He was the perfect Sid.

His interview at WrestleMania VIII cemented my love for him.
I’ll never base my love of a wrestler strictly based on technical skill.
