He must be so tired or drink a lot of energy drinks. That amount of hate uses a lot of energy.

Well, my increasing dislike of Jim Cornette isn't a work either.

This is all I can muster about the guy at this point:
A handful of years ago, I thought Cornette was providing a decent service to the wrestling industry, even if I thought he was over the top in the way he spoke about things (and people) and was dated and parochial in some of his views on what makes for good wrestling. Namely, I felt Cornette was providing some context for arguments many people have had against WWE's near monopoly over the industry on this side of the world: for example, he'd used numbers like local TV ratings and ticket sales to demonstrate how pro wrestling was more popular before the WWF boom in the 80s and 90s, and argued for an industry where even there might not be as many filthy rich people, at least there could be more people just simply making a full time living. I found something admirable in that. Even when I thought he was off-base on some things, like with how much he hated ECW, I at least felt "well, it's largely coming from a place of not wanting the wrestlers to have to kill themselves to get a reaction, and that's a positive thing to want."
Well, fast forward to 2019, and we're closer to being back in that scenario than we've been in decades; around the world non-WWE pro wrestling is on a decent upswing, with new companies appearing, older ones reinvigorating themselves, and more places providing at least some level of financial stability in a way that didn't exist just a decade ago. In the US and Canada, there are now many chances for wrestlers to appear on television, and many more spots available for a slew of great talent out there, including a new promotion with a prime time cable spot and lots of money behind it; in Mexico some new promotions are coming up; Europe had been on a nice upswing over the past five years and could get back there again; and Japan is seeing the kind of growth it hasn't had in at least ten years, not only from NJPW but also DDT and Dragon Gate as strong outlets while AJPW and NOAH once again become viable, among others. It's no golden age, it's not perfect, and the old territory days can never truly return in the age of the internet, but it's as positive a step forward as the scene has had in ages.
Are the in-ring risks higher than before? Sometimes, yes. But at the same time hard drug abuse seems less rampant than it was in the 80s-90s, workouts are more heavily based around keeping limber and avoiding injuries, etc. But at the same time, some wrestlers have managed to leverage the phenomenon of viral internet content into being able to get huge reactions and make and draw money without having to overly exert themselves. Joey Ryan's been wrestling for years yet now gets more attention by just having people grab his crotch. Orange Cassidy is a fantastic high flyer who now gets to work half his match time being the most laconic character you've ever seen.
And yet...Jim can't be happy. Not with any of it. And it's all because it's not what HE wants it to be.
Never mind that NJPW has grown to some of its all-time highest revenues; never mind that The Elite parlayed internet culture into what's now automatically the second biggest promotion in North America; never mind that Joey and Orange draw money and allow people to work easy matches for good pay thanks to their gimmicks; never mind that the global non-WWE scene is healthier than it's been in ages, that more people are making a full-time or at least part-time living, or that some of these places are growing and getting attention from people who might not be wrestling fans otherwise if it was still "WWE or bust" out there.
Nope: it's not how he wants it to look, so he has to be miserable about all of it.
That's depressing.

You ever get into a fight with a friend or spouse, and can't figure a way out of it? I think that's where Jim is.
I also think if you spend a lot of time on Twitter, in a critique type role, you feed off of the hate and love. It can be addicting.
I think this thread gets closed at 6 pages.

This is probably a weird analogy, but it's the best I can come up with: I used to think of Jim Cornette like your classic rock uncle who just didn't understand all this heavy metal and punk garbage the kids are into these days. Sure, he's a little old and behind the times, but at least he's still passionate about rock music, right? I used to enjoy his rants, even if I didn't always agree with them. I used to think Cornette was someone who was "looking out for the boys" with all his rhetoric ("You're gonna hurt yourself trying to do too much" "This is a silly gimmick" etc) just in his usual blustery way. I found the guy to be salty, but lovable. These days, though, I just think he's gone from cranky to downright mean and evil.

It doesn't matter if Cornette is being truthful or all of this angry old man ranting is just a work for attention.
He really needs to get over the fact that its not f***ing 1980s anymore and get a hobby other than wrestling.

I hope he takes up video games just so he can have some idea of some of the references that come out in AEW. I listened to his critique of the Omega/Bucks match from Dynamite, and was cracking up at him trying to wrap his head around Omega's Undertale reference in his entrance (Brian wasn't any better). Now I really want to see a video of Cornette trying to play Undertale.

I wonder how long it would take before he starts wishing death or dismemberment upon the video game developers and saying Pacman & Donkey Kong were games that made sense.

I'd be 100% for Corny being into video games. Hot damn it'd be like AVGN turned up.
