As a whole, "classic rock" (Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush, Queen, etc) does nothing for me.

Been listening to a lot of 90s country the past few days for some reason and the more I do the more baffled I am that Tim McGraw ever became a huge presence. He has some good songs but he has a lot of stuff, both early and later, that is just abysmal. And I have no earthly idea why in 2020 I'm hearing Indian Outlaw on the radio because yeesh that song is hideous. And even getting past... really being racist as all hell, let's not mince words here, it's not even catchy to begin with, it's really a chore of a song to get through.

Speaking of country, I really like Rascall Flatts. I know they’re one of those pop-country crooner groups that the die hards debate as to whether or not they’re “true country”, and as a very casual newbie I know they aren’t, but their voices are so pretty.

Rearranged is an absolutely fantastic song, and Behind Blue Eyes is a very well-done cover.
That said, the rest of Limp Bizkit's output is crap.

I've actually seen them in concert. Granted that was years ago, and nowadays I'm kind of up and down on them, but they do definitely still have stuff I like.

In the last few months I've been seriously re-evaluating my opinion of deathcore. A lot of it is every bit the dross I remember, but All Shall Perish, Suicide Silence (self-titled aside) and especially Whitechapel are just quality metal bands with great songs.
Edit: for fun I went back and read some of my earlier posts in this thread. In regards to this post, I'm glad to have changed my opinion about something.

Unplugged In New York by Nirvana is incedibly boring and easily their worst record.

Akk the new metal bands I hear buzz about nowadays seem to fall into overly technical/prog wankery or BRVTAL growly trash. Crunchy riffage and howl along choruses are only made by old bands, and eventually they're going to hang up their axes.
I fear that the genre will disappear up its own arsehole like Jazz did. Jazz used to be really popular! People used to go out and dance all night at jazz clubs! When the popularity waned, the genre kinda took a hard turn into overly technical, hard to listen to stuff that the hardcore jazz fans loved and everyone else hated.

Have a look around.

Regarding Sheryl Crow's cover of "Sweet Child O Mine," I never thought it was as bad as everyone said it was. Yes, the Guns N Roses version is a classic, and you can't beat Slash's guitar work on that song. But to me, Crow's version was actually done in her style and she didn't really try to emulate GNR. Speaking of controversial covers, I love the Michael Bolton and Percy Sledge versions of When A Man Loves A Woman equally. Actually I like Bolton’s stuff in general.

Avril Lavigne is one of the best female musicians ever. I thought "I'm With You" was a really great song (much to my surprise, to be honest). I assume she wrote it but I haven't checked.

One other Korn related one- I loved the Path of Totality album, even though all the critics crapped on it.

I haven’t listened to any of the Korn albums after Take A Look In The Mirror to Path of Totality (Mainly because I thought all the singles were rubbish) but Get Up! is an absolute banger of a tune.

In terms of their music: Ashlee Simpson > Jessica Simpson.
Since Ashlee felt the pressure to get out her sister’s shadow, it required her music to be more creative and risk-taking.

All Shall Perish kind of got a pass even back in the day for reasons I’m not sure of, but I’ve always been a fan. And in general there isn’t a lot of difference between brutal death (which gets a pass) and deathcore, except the deathcore bands are more musical and can incorporate solos and such.

That first All Shall Perish CD is straight up baller. It sounded a lot more raw, kinda like Entombed in a blender with Converge.

Little less emo lyrics, little crunchier with the guitars and production.

This is gonna sound like a weird bit but well, they also looked more like a death metal band than a pop punk band, which probably got them some points from the neckbeards who actually cared about that. Seriously, if Mitch Lucker didn't look like the missing member of Simple Plan, people probably wouldn't have been so hard on Suicide Silence (well at least before that... whatever the f*** the self titled was supposed to be)
