I have to wonder. Now that TV and the Saudi shows as revenues meant to turn everything around have come, and they did not magically fix everything, what's the next thing they can pin unrealistic expectations on? With house shows trimmed back, are they still going to try to take NXT on the road like they keep hoping to do in order to increase NXT's earning potential? I am sure that'd bring in more money, but it'd also make NXT even more expensive than it already is, I imagine, and could therefore only make the problem worse. Maybe they create more super shows somewhere. Remove B level PPV's and have the big 4, maybe 4 B levels and 4 super shows. Streamline more money in. Super shows in places like the UK, Australia, Japan, and so on would be great.

This reminds me of the time Zack Ryder did the Defunctland podcast though, and revealed that he is, just the worst.

Saying it didn’t fix everything is a little misleading. Their net income this quarter was $69 million due to the TV deals and Saudi deal. The entire year was only $77 million, while last year’s $99 million net income was the highest they ever had as far as I can look back (2006). So it seems they’re trending towards their highest profit year ever in 2020. The stock is still double or more what it used to be before they made the deals. It’s just went down because expectations were higher.

Because if he did I'll start the torch and pitchfork mob myself, that rat bastard!

Hey, if Walt's reclusive nature and paranoia, coupled with his private funeral gave way to conspiracy theories that he was frozen, I wanna make nut job theories about the man who legit thought he inherited the Disney lineage.

I joke, but a video series doing a deep dive on Vince’s failed business ventures (the WBF, the original XFL, WWF New York, the never-built WWF casino, etc.) would be a fun watch.

Imagine being any talent right now with short time left on contract. "Oh hi Vince I heard AEW was going to offer me child care..." "Goddamit, I'll give you a million a year, pay for your kid up to uni graduation and for your parents health bills and I 'll toss in a mortgage too..." "OK, you got me..." Outside office. "Man, I was just going to ask for an extra 5k to make up the costs..." I'm all for anyone squeezing their billionaire boss for everything they can. It's just strange, though. I love AEW, but it's not making huge strides in ratings compared to NXT, at least it hasn't been by my last check. Beyond the fact that AEW has management that's far more competent and has a good relationship with their network, what's keeping Vince from just ignoring them the same way he ignored TNA? I suppose if Vince really sees them as a threat the way he saw WCW as one, then there might be a problem. Unlike WCW, there's a singular force steering the ship and it's not as beholden to a TV conglomerate. In addition to that, Vince can't exactly up the ante and redo the Attitude Era now that everything's PG. It wouldn't work anyway, as tastes have changed. Beyond the fact that the owner has deep pockets and a sense of direction, I'm still not sure what's got VKM so spooked about AEW. This is all playing out like a classic tragedy, and I suspect Vince's hubris might finally be catching up to him. He's been bulletproof teflon for so many years that I wonder if he's got it in him to dig deep and really try again.

It's just strange, though. I love AEW, but it's not making huge strides in ratings compared to NXT, at least it hasn't been by my last check. At this point AEW does consistently win and usually pretty decisively, but still, both shows combined don't get as many viewers as Raw does so it is bizarre that they have WWE so terrified. The only real reasons I can see are that AEW skews younger and they're... pretty much the most competently run business that has ever been any kind of a comparison point to WWE because the AWA, NWA, WCW, TNA, ECW, whoever were all run by people who had no earthly idea what they were doing and they all killed themselves a lot more than WWE did.
