Ya know, I would love a series where we had the turtles as adults where the show was split between adventures in their older years with flashbacks to their younger years to show them learning the lessons that help them solve their current battles. More of a cause, and effect show. That way you can have classic characters and newer villains. And you can do stuff like show how villains became heroes later and vice versa. Could you imagine Ratking becoming a "good guy" but ends up using his control of rats to create a surveillance state where he had amassed enough info on important people from the rat's collecting information from people during his time of being a good guy.
Slash becoming an antihero that protects an island inhabited animal/human hybrid that came from failed experiments. Like the island of Dr. Moreau type deal where Slash ends up being the savior of the people there. Stuff like that while using the turtles as vehicles to show a world before them, during their younger/teenage years, and life's training a new generation while fight new enemies and familiar faces. And for God's sake, more Usagi Yojimbo. Seeing him be an older Samuri after teaming up with various Turtles for some epic battles. And inside jokes with Shredder and the gang drawing references to the Fresh Prince as a tribute to James Avery. They can do some great side stories.
And do stuff like telling short stories using other art styles that pay tribute to their different designs. For example, an episode where the 4 turtles are retelling the events of the night, but each turtle's story has a different animation style. Or a story where they have to take down the Foot Clan while doing it in a stealth way during a huge event that involves the President. So we don't get any dialogue aside from grunts and muffles sounds to not give their positions away.
Could you imagine Casey Jones becoming the owner of a pizza chain after Michelangelo makes the perfect pizza Casey takes a slice that happens to get eaten by a wealthy businessman that April is interviewing. Eventually Casey finds out that the businessman was the was an evil prick who had ties to Shredder.
I'd do something where the Foot Clan splintered (no pun intended) and in would create an additional wildcard threat to Shredder and the Turtles.
If anything like this has transpired in the comics, fill me in. I haven't kept up with every series to know if they have done stuff similar.
I know a little about what they are planning to do post Last Ronin.
