This is on Amazon Prime now. Man, you have to feel bad for that cast&crew. They did their best in a no win situation. It was only made to retain the rights and the total budget was a million bucks. And then they all got lied to and thrown under the bus with people going: "what a terrible movie! We never meant it to be seen!" and all this.
The interviews all still seem enthusiastic and proud of what they were able to do on a shoestring&rightfully so. I mean it's not good, but how could it be? It was as good as it could be given they were knee capped from the start. They at least captured the spirit pretty well.
The doc is a pretty good watch just to get the perspective of those who worked on it.

Its definitely a case where you can sense there's a good film in there that simply has trouble getting out due to the budget and certain story inclusions like the Jeweler.
Heck even Doom is actually done effectively as a sinister character in the first half to the point where if he had kept up that presence for the rest of it, he'd probably been remembered as a comic book villain done well.

I'd say it's not only the best Fantastic Four movie but that it isn't even a contest.

I have a comic book that has an interview with the guy who plays Reed. Dude was super proud of their effort. So yeah. My early 90s books are great for all the rumors about the Spider-Man movie and stuff. 😁

I always felt that if Marvel took this movie, invested some money in cleaning up the special effects with modern CGI (especially that ending with Human Torch and that laser weapon) and released it on some kind of streaming service or maybe DVD, they'd actually make a nice profit off of it. It's cheesy and it's not gonna upend the genre any, but it is a solid little movie.

I do think it speaks volumes about how Fantastic Four has been treated in adaptations that I think Incredibles is probably one of the weakest Pixar movies and I still would say it completely laps all of the actual FF movies like 50 times.

I also remember renting a movie as a kid, and there was a trailer for this movie at the beginning. I was so excited to see it, and thought it looked awesome, especially being a Dr. Doom fan. But I could never find it, and I still haven't seen it. 😕

I will say the second movie was slightly better than the first, and did try to fix a few of the problems from the first movie. Unfortunately, they ended up just making new mistakes to make up for the ones they took care of, but other than Galactus being a cloud, there was nothing too horrible. I thought they did do a great job with the Surfer, though.

When they do the MCU version they should have Alex Hyde-White appear as Reed's dad Nathaniel.

I joked to my wife "It's a doc about a failed Marvel project, so over/under on Avi Arad showing up to shift blame onto everyone else?" and within moments there he is.😂
