This recent spurt of super-fast matches needs to die a quick death
Kofi: 4 seconds
Bray: 2 minutes
AJ Styles: 1 Minute
Regardless of how you feel about either wrestler, These types of matches make everyone look worse and only serve to piss off fans.
Title reworded to better reflect what I was going for.

Four separate occasions I bought WWE shows, big ones too, Summerslam or Mania, and watched as the match I paid to see was a squash - Bryan at Mania 28, Christian/Regal at a Summerslam once...

Sometimes, it's fine, like the Brock vs Balor match, which ended up being quite good yet came in under 10 minutes from what I remember, but yeah, the majority of the time, it's "f*** the audience" booking to not at LEAST put in something closer to 10 minutes.

Yeah, but some important matches don’t need to be 45 minutes either (I’m looking at you Hunter)

I disagree with that, depending on what it is. Usually you want to give a match time to breathe but sometimes it works better just doing a sprint.

I think you can put on a fantastic >10 minute match, but this trend of squash championship matches has gotta stop.

I just feel like zero squash matches should take place on a show that's supposed to be important. Brock vs. Ricochet could've easily taken place on RAW, been for the title, and while we still would've been upset... at least it wouldn't have been a match with any real promotion so you wouldn't expect something crazy like, oh.. I don't know.... Ricochet actually showing why he earned a title shot.
Ricochet's moveset is such that he could easily confound Lesnar with his movements and get shots in. They could've logically gotten away from the meta where Lesnar can only take punishment if immediately preceded by a low blow. He could've done all the athletic stuff that got him attention and got him signed, up until he either got cocky or Brock got wise, caught him and made him pay. At least then, Ricochet would still have some value at the end of the night. This match just made him look like garbage.

Nah, I disagree. You can have 5 minutes of action and it's dope. Goldberg/Lesnar proved that.
And besides, even though it's wrestling no fight lasts longer than 5 minutes in real life. Sure people might say "gimme 5" but I've never seen a real fight last that long. Usually you can take care of things in 1 minute. With that in mind I can easily see a major feud ending itself in a big 5 minute brawl.

for a character like Goldberg/strowman/orton/brock/etc, a sub ten minute match is fine if they're supposed to steam roll the opponent or has been built up so that a squash match makes sense (like an rko out of nowhere.) or they have an insta-kill move that could/should end a match early.
but a squash match out of no where for the sake of having a squash match if it's not built up too is pretty pointless.

The sub-minute squashes are as bad as the 35+ minute epics in my book. Taking 3 of the most notable Mania matches of all-time, Hogan/Andre went 12 minutes (Savage/Steamboat went 14). Savage/Warrior went 18 minutes. Hogan/Rock went 16 minutes. You need to let it breathe, but the idea that every important match has to be a drawn-out slog isn't necessarily so.

I would tend to agree with this. Also I feel as though the more compelling the build up of the match, the longer it should go. Kofi/Bryan was a great match that also had a compelling storyline to match.

Goldberg matches literally have to be under 3 minutes otherwise Bill will probably pass out. Nobody else has any excuse other than a once in a while thing. It's 2020, the company wont allow anyone to carry a match on entirely charisma so f*** the horrible squashes off, please.

I get the op’s point but wrestling as a whole could really stand to get away from the “smelling our own farts” 30+ minute marches. It really is ok to have a killer 8 minute match and have it be that.

I feel like shorter matches definitely have a place, but with a couple conditions:
1. It shouldn't be the main event, and
2. It shouldn't be short just because one guy in the match has the cardio of a wet tissue. I shouldn't have to sit through a main event being two minutes because one guy decided to make Constitution their dump stat.

Honestly I'm just super burned out on the long non-title TV matches right now. I enjoyed Roderick Strong vs. Bronson Reed on NXT a couple weeks ago, but it still felt way too long. I think there's a way to make a guy look good (which Reed did) without going overboard on the length of the match. I don't know.
I think some are just better suited for those kinds of short, action packed matches. I can watch Black fight Murphy or Asuka fight Becky or Charlotte for 15 minutes, but I never want to see Elias (as much as I like him) wrestle longer than 6 or 7 minutes.

One of my favourite matches this year was Imperium v The Forgotten Sons. That only went about five minutes but that was f***ing great.
