I actually loved the surprise title win, and it's something I think should be done from time to time. It had me more interested in the product than anything that's happened since. But they absolutely butchered everything other than his entrance; there's bad writing, then there's whatever the f*** they were trying to do with Jinder. The long winded promos, the same exact finish to every damn match, his first feud with Orton who was completely phoning it in. Like Ben Wyatt said, it didn't have to be nearly as bad as it was, and it sucks that Jinder takes so much of the blame when the booking was so mind-bogglingly awful at every turn that it felt like sabotage. This is pretty much my feeling too. I've always been a little bit of an apologist for Jinder's championship reign because there was some stuff to enjoy there. I thought he was an entertaining character during this time but he was given some real awful material to work with. His reign should've been so much better, and could've been.

I loved his reign for how he was presented. He had a presence on the weekly show, but usually a promo to develop storylines. He hardly ever wrestled unless it was a title defense, so they seemed more important when he did.
I really wish they stuck with that.
Still think his SummerSlam hype video made him seem like a super baby face, though.

I've said it before, if they had his character be like the real guy in that workout vid where he came across as a huge face and did say a two month build of him working his way up against the odds he'd probably have been over---maybe not mega over but at least better than "I'm foreign and that's bad."

They pushed him for the tour in India. It didn’t matter that he killed both attendance and the ratings they needed their tour in India.
And when they went to india? Triple H pinned Jinder.

I'm not even going to talk about ability here. My biggest problem with Jinder as champ was all in presentation. This guy had been a jobber for years. His most notable accomplishment to date was being a member of 3MB, and even with that he was the Ringo of the group. Loss after loss after loss, if he even made it to tv. Nothing about this guy made me think champion, or anything at all for that matter. Then out of nowhere he gets 2 wins and earns a championship opportunity, which he wins. Okay, how is this explained? WWE, the land of opportunity, where anything can happen, you can go from being nothing to World Champion. No, nothing like that, they don't acknowledge his past, they don't acknowledge that this was a lucky break. No, we're presented with this suddenly transformed man who, in spite of a decade of being presented as someone who couldn't beat your grandmother, is now suddenly a dominant performer. It's the worst soap opera script writing you can see.

I hate that they went straight to racist foreigner. Should have been a big face turn moment for a perennial doormat to become WWE Champion. Lord knows they’d screw that up too because WWE can’t write faces, but it would have better than what we got.
I actually didn’t hate the concept, just the godawful execution.
And that championship entrance. That was too nice.

Top tier of worst world champions. Not his fault but f*** that was a dire...half year? What a miserable run. It was very much partially his fault. Sure he didnt book himself to win andhave a long run.But god does he suck in every way.

It literally killed my interest in WWE dead. After he won I pretty much stopped watching wwe until AJ won the title back before Survivor Series. Terrible champion when there is a line of wrestlers who deserve it more.
The fact Ceasaro and Rusev have never gotten a run with the title and Jinder did is mind blowing. The mind set of "but he got into such tremendous shape and has really worked hard for this" is laughable when you consider how many other people that applies to.
Also, comparing his run with Goldberg's lately is ridiculous imo, both runs were dumb and neither should have happened. One sucking a little less than the other doesn't excuse the fact that both runs were ill-advised.

The Man. The Myth. The Unhindered.
His name is up there with legends like Rice Flair, The Rick, Viktor, Patti Mayonnaise.

I couldn't be upset about the win itself becaause it was so surreal, but the reign itself was brutal.

I just discovered this guy yesterday after my sister recommended watching his show on Netflix. Seeing him in a picture with Jinder of all people is awesomely random. I wonder where it was taken as they are two people that I never would've guessed interacted in any way. Maybe when he comes back Jinder can start coming to the ring with his own pet tiger. With the current situation it's not like they have to worry about it attacking fans.

They needed to build him up over a few months and then after winning the title. he needed a finish other than "Jinder is toast, Signh brothers distract opponent and get destroyed, Jinder wins with Kallas/roll-up" Hell, you could still have him win via flukey ways (see: JBL's reign) and maybe, just *maybe* his reign isn't considered the worst ever. Don't get me wrong, his reign was never going to be great, but he never had a chance from moment one It was just weird because they could have made it work. When they brought him back initially they could have started pushing him off the bat and hyping up how he used his time away from the WWE to train and improve. Or like Trent said you could have done the JBL-type reign with fluke wins. But they just turned him from a jobber to someone we were supposed to take seriously overnight. He had the JBL fluke wins... that's really ALL he had... Jinder wrestled exactly one type of match... Jinder gets his ass kicked... Singhs cause a distraction ... Jinder rollup/Khalessi. The BIGGEST issue is as stated he went from a CAREER Jobber to World Champion... Jinder was never even close to the mid card... Bradshaw was at worst a midcard guy in his big run with teh company... and at times the APA were absolutely an upper mid card tag, and was always treated as a badass. Jinder had none of that... he was basically a jobber and his most famous run was as a COMEDY jobber at that. Hell like 2 weeks before he got his title shot he was punked out of the Andre Battle Royale by f***ing Gronk. He needed either a midcard run as a heel or a Rocky Balboa type inspirational face thing (and even then ROCKY LOST in the first movie) Seriously, have Jinder doing a bunch of face promos about him training and how this is probably his one shot at the big time and he's not going to waste it. While Randy is basically blowing him off... at the bar or club... doing anything but training... Then at the match well... if I was booking like I said Jinder would still lose... but he'd go toe to toe with Orton leaving Orton scrambling and picking up the victory only because he cheated... then Jinder goes on a run in the mid card to see if he can keep any face momentum that he got from the match... the problem is... I don't think Jinder could hold up the in ring part of it to make it seem like Randy was ever actually close to losing... cause Jinder isn't particularly good. I mean with how he was... management didn't give Jinder any help... but at the same time it was Jinder's chance to sink or swim... and he sunk... showing he was completely out of his depth as a main event heel.

I remember when Heyman just responded to his challenge to Brock by straight up burying him to the point where I even felt sorry for the guy.

I remember when Heyman just responded to his challenge to Brock by straight up burying him to the point where I even felt sorry for the guy. Yeah, he basically laughed at him... and then AJ Styles like immediately beat him for the title the next week... It was very much a ... yeah Heyman was right that Jinder vs. Brock wasn't selling any shows but... like it's not Jinder's fault the company put him in that position

I was at Allstate Arena when he won. The entire night I was just thinking, "they aren't really going to put the title on him are they???". When they did, I just shook my head. On one hand, it was a new guy at the top.... on the other hand, he went from jobber to title in the span of like 6 weeks. Not to the IC title.... the damn WWE Title. I tried to get into it, but I just couldn't do it.
