Am I the only one who wanted to see a feud with babyface Shawn Michaels vs a heel Marty Jannetty? They did have a one-off match on RAW in 1996, but I would have liked to see a full length feud like that. It's not like the New Rockers were getting any major push, so they could have just broken them up and had a feud between Marty and Shawn. Would have been better than that sexual harassment angle with Davey Boy at least.

Jannetty had fallen too far down the card by that point. No one would seriously buy him being a threat to the guy who just bested Bret Hart in a 60+ minute match.

Marty makes Sid look reliable by comparison.

I always wanted to see a stable of Marty Jannetty, Jim Neidhart, Bart Gunn, Headshrinker Samu and a few more “other guys” banding together to target their more famous former partners.

Shawn was in another dimension compared to Marty at this point. He was the face of the company and was remembered for spectacular matches, while Jannetty was still pedalling his Rockers gimmick some five years after it meant anything.

No way anyone could take him serious after that coward jumped through a window to get away from Shawn Michaels

Maybe as a one off match on Raw either as a obstacle to get to whoever he’s really feuding with or as a red herring setting up a feud with someone else.

There was no chance face HBK would work a program with Marty at that point. They weren't buddies by that point and Marty's flakeyness made him near unbookable in a major program. Look at all the solo feuds he had and all the long term programs the New Rockers were booked in, the WWF knew the guy was liable to get drunk and arrested at any point.
The matches would have been decent, but there would be no payoff to the feud, making it a waste of time.

All the other problems aside - did Marty ever work as a heel? He's kind of a doofus, but very likable in his own way. I don't think I can see the crowd hating on him.

They really missed out on something by not brining Marty back during the attitude era and telling him to just be himself

I’d be fine with anything Jeannette v Michaels. Marty was every bit Shawns equal in the ring. He had great natural charisma but piss poor mic work and well the whole drug thing

Marty was on what was it, his 4th or 5th chance by that point? Vince was never gonna trust him with a high profile role in the company by that point.

Not only in the New Rockers (which is mentioned in the post above) but the Rockers themselves went heel in Memphis: Shawn struggles in this promo, but he is very young and green. However, that is one of the best promos I've ever heard Marty cut. Would have been interesting to see him get a proper mid-card heel run.

Man Marty was way bigger than Shawn there.
