Bruce Pritchard: So what new gimmick can we give The Revival? Vince McMahon: Give them ALL the gimmicks. Bruce Pritchard: I’ll get the box.

Re Rikishi comparisons I think that gimmick would fail today as crowds/viewers have less of an attention span or patience for recurring gags (more entertainment options maybe) if done today by the 10th time Rikishi rubbed his arse in someones face or Santino hits the cobra or Scotty does the worm or the Dudleys do the "wassup" ect ect people would fold their arms and say "got anything new?" Orange Cassidy is very talented so watch him make subtle changes to his act to avoid becoming the next "I didn't do it" boy. Aew have been quite restrained with Orange Cassidy, keeping him to small doses so people are left wanting more. WWE lost that restraint a long time ago, Cassidy would have multiple segments and matches a week while Lawler introduced and hyped him up.

Okay, first Shorty G and then this. I'm convinced WWE hired the former writing staff of some 90's Nickelodeon show.

This story appears to have renewed interest in a couple of old tweets from late 2016/early 2017 by former WWE writer James McKenna about an idea he claims they pitched for Braun Strowman. Make of these what you will.

Magician Strowman? Damn we missed out on the greatest time line... Also this looks more professionally done than the revival pictures... the revival pictures looks like they were whipped up in paint.

Hmmm guess everyone around the time was trying to get a magician gimmick off the ground as Marty the Moths original gimmick pitch in LU was as The Magificent Martin with Brenda as his assistant.

They don't even have the decency to make the clothing look good for these pitched gimmicks. Like, it looks like they're pitching you to be a gimmick from the god damn discount halloween bin.

Comedy gimmicks are maybe more dependent on both the performer and creative going all in than any other type of gimmick to make work because you want the audience to laugh but there needs to be some cred maintained. Kurt Angle is who comes to mind immediately...comes on the scene total f***ing goofball nerd but his in ring work was never compromised by using that to put over the goofball nature of Kurts personality and that balance was perfect , people laughed at him during promos but when it came to wrestling people took his skills seriously. That was 20 years ago. Today, his goofball persona would have earned him a permanent outfit wearing the tiny cowboy hat and being renamed to 'Special K'. Comedy gimmicks haven't been given fair treatment in quite some time in the WWE; you get maybe a month or two of 'fluke win' promise, only to be buried in the lower card and shuffled off to Main Event until people forget you were a thing (Rusev Day and Fashion Police absolutely fall under these IMO). The only exception to that rule seems to be New Day, and I fully believe it's because they're a big merch seller. Take away that profit and they'd have never survived as long as they have now.

I’d like to see some gimmicks come back, even if they’re stupid. Watching a roster with a hundred guys with long hair and beards be redundant isn’t really drawing anybody in

...took me a day, realized it is basically doing to the Revival exactly what was done with the Ascension. "They got over as a throwback act" translates into outfits that hammer in the retro 80s aesthetic so hard that it is painful.
