So they wanted to make them like The Bushwhackers or something like that?
I can't be the only one that prefers whacky gimmicks like this over two "rasslers" in their trunks, can I?

I like wacky gimmicks as much as the next guy, but it falls apart if the people aren't into it. Like, the actual look is almost like that Rik Bugez dude that had one match on NXT and got so damn over with the schtick that they had him do his entrance again for the crowd. He hasn't been on TV since. I don't know how this would have gone, they do have some underrated comedy chops, but I feel like Dawson and Wilder take themselves too seriously to have been in any way into this.

They do take themselves too seriously and I think that's the problem with most wrestlers today. They forget that wrestling is a performance. They think they're "real badasses" and their egos often get in the way. Imagine the likes of Rikishi said "You want me to rub my ass in another man's face? Hell no"... Dude wouldn't have a career. I would go as far to say that most of that stuff would make you more money and get more eyes on the product than putting on a 5 star wrestling clinic while looking as boring as physically possible. Casual fans want goofy gimmicks and storylines. That's why the Attitude Era was absolute peak wrestling. To us diehards, something like Beaver Cleavage was trash but in the real world, that sorta thing gets talked about more on Social Media than American Alpha vs The Revival.

You just know there is gonna be someone that wears this on BTE or maybe even AEW...definetly BTE though,
Oh and confirmation that Vince has finally discovered who Flava Flav is.
As for how this would have gone over...idk unless they were gonna be turned into big time babyfaces but this looks like it was an inevitable "hey we are gonna package you with shorty-G as some sort of trio"

My first thought was that this has got to be someone's idea of a joke, because nobody in their right mind would think this was a good idea. Then I remembered Shorty G.
The thing about goofy gimmicks is they rely on two things to work: actually committing to creating a complete gimmick, and not treating the wrestlers and fans like f***ing idiots. WWE seem to be incapable of doing either, so theirs are frequently terrible. It's either stuff like this which is so idiotic that it's offensive and embarrassing, or stuff like the Vaudevillains, which I thought could've been a fantastic gimmick but that I don't think got fully fleshed out, so it didn't really work.

And that's sort of the key thing about this. Especially using the Vaudevillains as an example, you could build a show around gimmicks that are creative and outlandish yet not stupid enough for people to not think they work in-universe. When they got called up, they were just dudes who happen to dress up in 1920s style gear when, if you put them in even the New Generation, they would have vignettes, commentary would have fleshed out the gimmick, interviews would be done with a logo or a tint to them to make it look like an old movie, the full nine yards. To blame the wrestlers for this is weird because there are wrestlers doing that right now and others who don't have as grand a gimmick able to parody themselves and do comedy matches every so often. WWE seems to have forgotten completely that it's a two way process with this stuff. You can't just take Chad Gable, repackage him as Shorty G, have him take no development on the kind of wrestler he is or how many wins he has and suddenly expect people to care.

Yeah, while not a top guy by any stretch, Rikishi had been wrestling for national promotions off and on for over a decade before the Rikishi Phatu gimmick

What were they thinking?
The bowties pose too much of a safety hazard.
Bowties, as always, are cool, but don't work here.

This reminds me of a story from one of Mick Foley's books about how he envisioned meetings between the WCW booking committee. He imagined them saying something along the lines of, "Ok, so we have this hard working wrestler who loves the business and is willing to do anything for the greater good of this company. What can we do to nip this in the bud?"

Comedy gimmicks are maybe more dependent on both the performer and creative going all in than any other type of gimmick to make work because you want the audience to laugh but there needs to be some cred maintained.
Kurt Angle is who comes to mind immediately...comes on the scene total f***ing goofball nerd but his in ring work was never compromised by using that to put over the goofball nature of Kurts personality and that balance was perfect , people laughed at him during promos but when it came to wrestling people took his skills seriously.

It could go either way with how the response is,but this coming out of bodyslam.net and them slathering their URL logo over the images makes this a hard sell.

I remember seeing them and thinking they could've been fun, but they just wore the gear and that was it. They didn't wrestle like pioneer-era wrestlers, or have a carnival barker manager with a megaphone, or have silent movie and newsreel vignettes where they lifted old-fashioned barbells, or any of the number of fun things you could do with that gimmick. And it's a recurring theme with WWE gimmicks, you see the beginnings of what could be a good idea and it just doesn't go anywhere. Or the idea clearly just isn't thought out properly to begin with so doesn't work at all.

While I don’t buy this as legit, I would absolutely buy that weird giant Shatter Machine chain/clock if it were for sale.
Need to spruce up my outfits once the world starts turning again.

"(insert name here) and who they are as a character is..." "Don't care, call them up."
