I expected something really racist because the stereotype of redneck fans back then, but it was somehow even worse! Far worse!

Here’s part of the original story, reads like an awful pulp story. Wrestling magazines were scummy back then it seems. This disturbs me as much as the letter. In every picture she is smiling, yet sharing this horrendous experience. I don't even want to read the story. So exploitive. And since magazines were in kayfabe, and many times written as a work by the publisher, did she even contribute or did they just make it up? I'm reminded of Kevin Sullivan being angry when they wrote the story about him being a satan worshipper when he worked very hard on keeping satanism out of his Florida gimmick. Imagine Cora hearing about this article after the fact? Man. It says the pictures were taken before it happened. But Jesus Christ, Danny boy. 😲

The thing is, the guy had so many opportunities to stop himself. When he was writing the letter, buying the stamps, on the way to the mailbox... bit nope, at no point did it enter his head that this was a very poor idea.
I always think Twitter is dangerous, because people write stuff for the world to see before they think it through. But this guy had plenty of thinking time & still went through with it!

The handful of Baltimore Daniel O'Hara's that Mr google pops up are far too young to be our man, probably used a fake name.

As appalling as the letter is, keep in mind the f***ing magazine editor read that and published it.

I expected a series of typos or out and out fawning over a certain wrestler.
Turns out I was wrong. (*shudder*) Even reading it felt awful.

Today sadly it is pretty tame compared to what others post. Kind of weird for the publisher to post it like that, without using it to make a point about the subject.
Maybe if the author had denounced the rapist, while saying he would rather win her heart and marry her, it would have been still misogynistic as he is not asking her, but it's not as creepy as this.
The sad thing is I know people 'joke' like this with their close friends but obviously denounce such a thing when pressed seriously.
But this is printed nationally....

The weirdest thing is the last sentence, "Thank goodness she was able to fight him off", which contradicts what he had to say previously.

If the editor if the magazine felt like this letter was fit to print in their magazine, it makes me wonder what sorts of letters were rejected? Short of condoning murder, I don't know what else could be worse than this.

They published it but somehow had the good sense not to comment on it, which it looks like they did for others. I imagine the intent was, with titling it "Lucky Rapist?" that it was a, "Get a load of THIS guy!" thing, but presenting it unchallenged was still a bizarre choice.
