(WARNING: DISTURBING CONTENT)I was going through some old 60s/70s wrestling magazines tonight, looking for stuff to scan and...Oh man, this is sickening. This is from the May 1968 issue of The Wrestler (many years before Apter was involved in them) in regards to a previous issue's article regarding Cora Combs fending off an attempted rapist at a show:

I was going to make a joke based on the title, but uhh, this was so horrible that I don't really have it in me now. Holy shit.
Also, why the hell did they even print that?

You sure that wasn't Fabulous Moolah writing under a fake name?

Here’s part of the original story, reads like an awful pulp story. Wrestling magazines were scummy back then it seems.

"I don't condone rape, but..." is certainly a take.
It's not a good take in any way. But it's a take.

The bloody Bobby Heenan magazine cover also has a headline saying "Rapist Invades Girls Dressing Room!"

You know those threads where you see the title and think, "This is gonna be a fun one." and then you open it up and it's something very different from what you were imagining...?

Imagine feeling so strongly about sharing this thought with others that you sit down at the table and write it by hand (or type it), put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it and go out and mail it.
Do wrestling magazines have a history of fudging letters? Now imagine THAT ... that the staff came up with it.

Here’s part of the original story, reads like an awful pulp story. Wrestling magazines were scummy back then it seems. This disturbs me as much as the letter. In every picture she is smiling, yet sharing this horrendous experience. I don't even want to read the story. So exploitive. And since magazines were in kayfabe, and many times written as a work by the publisher, did she even contribute or did they just make it up? I'm reminded of Kevin Sullivan being angry when they wrote the story about him being a satan worshipper when he worked very hard on keeping satanism out of his Florida gimmick. Imagine Cora hearing about this article after the fact? Man.

Also, it's always the editor or assistant editor's call to name letters in publications like this, so some asshole really thought "Lucky Rapist?" was an appropriate thing to add to the top of this thing that went to print.
