Trey Parker writes like, most of the episodes right? I always thought that was cool, cause I hate when people say stuff like "Oh *show creator is so smart and funny" when the show creator only wrote like the pilot and two episodes after it...
...but at the same time, wouldnt it help if more people came up with the main plots and writing and stuff for some? So the recent episodes would be better and stuff?

I actually like the past like...4 or 5 seasons or so the best, really.
I don't like a lot of the earlier stuff.

Hopefully the next season will be less over-the-top and exaggerated. No talking lice or atheist otters please.

Yep. He's the one who writes it all. The earlier seasons it was mostly him and Matt or just him then for awhile they let OTHER people write the show which is why there's a mixture of crappy episodes in those first few years.

They do have a writing staff so I think ideas are pushed around and then Trey flushes them out. I don't think they are all Trey's ideas.

Season 10 was real good cept for "Million Little Fibers", but Season 11 aint been that good...
...and yeah I dont like the earlier Seasons as much. It started getting good near the end of Season 2 and was real good by Season 4. Season 5 to the first half of Season 7 was the best though, I mean every episode was real good...

The recent seasons it seems like the writers have been saying "Let's see how much pointless crap we can cram into one episode. Let's run the fact that Garrison's a homophobe/homosexual and the fact that Randy Marsh is a moron into the ground, to the point of them no longer being funny characters. Oh, yeah, let's be as offensive as possible, without ever actually making any real social points, period." The past couple of seasons have sucked. The show peaked with "Scott Tenorman Must Die", and has only occasionally matched that peak.

That said, more original material please, guys.

Actually, I believe Trey writes an episodes, and then other writers add their ideas to it. I mean, the show does credit other writers.

I mean I always thought the first Season was about that kinda stuff, lately it aint really been like that... For this one, I always point to the completely unnecessary Steve Irwin cameo a season or so ago, as well as a lot of other stupid stuff. If I had time, I'd come up with a whole list, but the only episodes I've really, REALLY liked in the past few years have been the "Scientology" ones, but that's bordering on religious discussion, so I won't go into it.

That was at the Biggie party, right? The Steve Irwin thing? I did find that tasteless.
I just would like some original episodes in between my parodies, that's all.

So when did South Park jump the shark?
I would say either a) After the movie came out......because you could really only go down b) When they brought Kenny back d) The Oprah episode with Towelie
Also, I would say that South Park started showing full blown fatigue during the season that had the weapons episode and the You Got Served Episode.....eveyrthing from the movie up until that point was solid, during that season the episode quality really dropped off.
It was at its strongest when it first expanded into the ensemble characters (when Jimmy Timmy and Butters and everyone else were introduced), and the storylines revolved around everyone in the classroom. See: Sex Ed episode

I'm not sure why, but I hated "Scott Tenorman Must Die." I didn't find that episode funny at all.

I was just bringing it up for discussion....the show really took a hit viewer wise after the movie. Also, nothing will ever be as good as the movie. I guess thats not really jumping the shark, but it was definitely the high point of the show. i just can't put my finger on exactly when the show really went downhill.
The season before the movie and the 3 seasons after it were probably the best.
I just think they need to change up the writing style. The last 4 or 5 seasons have all had the same basic joke and plotline through every episode.
I will say that the writing on the show has gotten a lot smarter, but I don't know that it has gotten funnier. The last couple seasons, I've sat through entire episodes not even cracking a smile. I guess I liked it when is was more Monty Python off the wall with a huge cast of characters, rather than the 3 character heavy handed satire its become.
Also, I feel like I'm being yelled at now whenever I watch the show. Its too heavy handed.
