Dimmu Borgir's "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse" and "Gateways" are funny in a lot of ways they didn't intend.
But at least they were a change in the trend of a lot of metal videos for a long time there to just be the band playing the song in a warehouse, possibly accompanied by some weak "story" scenes of a guy and a girl alternating between being affectionate and staring wistfully off into the distance.

Metallica's Whiskey in the Jar. They could've done something really cool if they went along with the lyrics of the Irish folk song they were covering, instead it was just them trashing a house.
Also their cover of Turn the Page, which was just depressing, with the stripper getting sexually abused with her daughter in the room.

Queen's videos for "Spread Your Wings" and "We Will Rock You" are somewhat ho hum compared to just about every other music video they made. Just the band on a stage in Roger Taylor's garden in the middle of winter.

I wouldn't say it's a great video, but it stuck with me for a long time after I saw it. To me it certainly made Metallica feel darker and more serious than they had in awhile there.

Just the band on a stage in Roger Taylor's garden in the middle of winter. Most of Queens videos are crap, with exception to "I want to break free" and "The Invisible man" the others are either the band sitting down and/or standing next to each other or playing live on a stage/train/other mode of transport

My way by Limp Bizkit.
The Austin Vs Rock hype package is the true music video as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly most Eminem music videos were either painful attempts at comedy or so edgy Zack Snyder would ask him to tone down. I didn't mind the video for "Superman," because I can see what they were going for. I just did not need to see Eminem's ass in that video. That's only in the dirty version (I did like seeing Gina Lynn naked in it, though). I will say that the video for "Fight Music" from D12 was actually a nice homage to The Warriors, however.

Dunno if this counts but of all the rather generic stuff Kidd Video put out, I really like this song and unironically like listen to it from time to time (have to say, Cousin Oliver has some awesome pipes).
Sadly the music video doesn't have the same kind of energy.

I am only linking this just to be on the safe side. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3vOeCkeCNAOkay, I can be mixed on this. I remember seeing this video as a child and thinking it was cool. Keep this in mind, I was only 11 when I first saw the video and I thought it was cool that children were used. But as I got older, I started to see that it was sort of creepy. I will admit that it was cute to see kid versions of Snoop at the end and stuff, but at the same time, even when I was in my 20s some of the imagery didn't sit too well with me. The 1990s were a different time, after all. Besides, if people can cause a shit-storm over that French movie "Cuties" and the Netflix poster, they haven't exactly seen other things. For example, this video or even the promotional stuff for Wrestlemania 23.

Pretty much anything by ABBA. The group even admitted they would shot 2-3 videos a day.
In Chichiquita you can see a crew member walk into shot before scurrying behind the giant snowman.

But iconic as the image is, four dudes singing in the dark then rocking out didn’t make for a particularly thrilling video, IMHO. YMMV.

On this topic... a whole channel with this kind of stuff: pluto.tv/live-tv/vevo-70sMost of the music is legendary, but a lot of the videos are less than great. It was from pre-MTV days, though, so I’ll cut it some slack.
