I caught AEW this week, and noticed that TEAM TAZ, had a random kid in their group called Hook. I did a little research and appears this is TAZ's son. Thats awesome if his son is training and wants to step into the ring, but why have him on TV and being apart of Team Taz as this stage? I'am sure hes green as hell, and wouldnt be able to be trusted to have a full match on his own ( even if he did, it wouldn't be believable) You have this great team full of monsters and dudes who look like they will kill you, and then you have "Hook" who looks to be about 160lbs and about 14. The only person on the roster that you could put near him to make him not stand out would be Marko Stunt, Hook just looks so out of place, especially on Wednesday show when they were all standing on the stage, and all the "good guys" were in the ring. There are many other guys who could be put into his role, and it would seem more legit, then a kid whos trying to look scary around a bunch of grown men. It seems like AEW has a problem with doing things to make certain people happy. Billy Gunn- lets bring his kids along to and sign them when realistically, they are only there cause of who their dad is. Who knows, maybe TAZ has something in his contract, but it just doesnt fit with me..and not in a "o man i wanna see him get his butt kicked" kind of way.

Because he was training with Cody's crew and 'turned' on them to help his Dad recently which brought him into the public eye.
His Suplex on Cassidy was cool too.

AEW takes some things from New Japan, the "Young Boy" of the faction is another. Hook is the Young Boy, he's there to run interference, gain experience, and then eventually contribute to the group in bigger and better ways
It shows Team Taz is a legitimate thing, Taz is always talking about how they "Train Assassins" in his group. In order to sell that you need an example, and Hook is that for them. He's already doing some impressive stuff, I'm interested to see when he has his first actual match.

His role is Taz's son who got pulled from school because his dad has a dispute with the principal, so I don't exactly know who these many other guys are. Now Team Taz has a Young Boy and presumed loss post for larger matches.

Well it's wrestling and you're always going to have an easier time getting your foot in the door if you're related to a great. But that only gets you so far. I'm sure the Rock and Charlotte had an easier time getting into the system because of who they're related to but at the end of the day, they also were talented. We don't know if Hook has anything but we'll have to wait and see. He looked good in the one spot he did though. And he has an athletic background as a lacrosse player and can definitely add some muscle before he goes full time (just look at Cody's body when he started versus today). I'm fine with it since it has a reason in storyline and it makes sense that this leader of a dojo would have his son by his side.

One of the big facets to the young boy process in New Japan is the idea of having them out there at ringside. Part of that is to do menial ringside stuff if a match needs it or being smacked by Minoru Suzuki, but they're also there to observe and study the match going on in front of them. They can observe the match up close and learn from its intricacies. Hook isn't there doing a ton and siphoning attention or getting into matches right now; he's an extra body to do interference stuff. He's part of Cody's school, and that does seem to be a place that the company is recruiting out of. Letting him hang around TV to pick up a little more experience doesn't hurt Team Taz any.

I honestly just assume it was a reference to Red Hook, Brooklyn, Taz's billed home town, sort of like why Charlotte is called Charlotte to begin with.
I wonder how far along Hook is in his training. He's only done a suplex and clothesline so far, and it was on two fairly experienced guy(Ryzin and Orange Cassidy) who know how to make it look good. So, it does make me think he must be getting closer, but it isn't necessarily an indication he's going to be debuting very soon.

Especially if they split it into a more Talent Developmental and Competitive show. These young kids get reps every week because of this show, whether it's a squash or otherwise. So I feel like Hook could get a DARK run like The Gunn Club have eventually.

It's probably a combination of that and the term hook being used across all types of martial arts which inspired Taz's in-ring style.

Good replies that totally make sense....but I just can’t buy him as this ruthless monster when he looks like a middle school point guard who’s playing for a division 1 college basketball program with 3 All Americans. There’s no way to believe that he’d be any threat to anyone in the roster.
