He's already got half the Chikara roster in AEW, and the video library would help.
The only downside is that a lot of money would go into the pocket of the scumbag quackenbush.

I heard Tony Khan went to a restaurant and bought all the food in the restaurant and then they had to close the restaurant
And he didn't let Mike Quackenbush eat any of it

I wont mind it, just so they can have a King Of Trios event and The Young Lion Cup would be nice thing to add to Dark.

I mean, it'd be kind of nifty if/when they ever had some kind of archive, as well as help keep a decent chunk of Brodie's career archived, and to prevent a situation where the rights fall into some hellhole.
Paying off Quack would suck, sure, but there is some merit to the idea, overall.

I could see some potential long-term benefits if they want to try launching their own equivalent of the WWE Network or something, but if that's not really something on the agenda then for the foreseeable future it'd probably just be a waste of money.

Would Quack even want to sell the rights?
Dude's a massive control freak.

I would rather they not pay Quackenbush a dime and just borrow the good ideas he had with new names. They don't need to call their Trios tournament King of Trios.

no. i loved CHIKARA as much as anyone back in the day, but when you're at the level AEW's at and still new and trying to grow your audience, you don't try to attract them with old footage of your talent wrestling in front of 25 people in the Barnsville Thunderdome. its one thing to show a clip of a wrestler competing in front of a tiny crowd when they're just starting their career, but the wrestlers they have that are most associated with CHIKARA (Eddie Kingston, Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy, etc.) spent years and years and years there, which would make them come off as bush league. and that's not to mention the fact that CHIKARA was and will forever be a niche product that's not everyone's cup of tea. so a potential new viewer comes along to AEW's website and watches a match where AEW wrestler Chuck Taylor and a guy dressed up as an ant fight for control of a nonexistent hand grenade, only to lose it and have everyone run away in slow motion before all them (including the ref) simultaneously take a huge bump when it "explodes", and thinks it is indicative of AEW's wrestling (or at the very least AEW's wrestlers) and decides its too silly and not for them. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}and i don't mean to trivialize the danger of Chucky T's invisible hand grenade. that thing is real, that thing is really dangerous, and to this day i'm still amazed Soldier Ant didn't die when he sacrificed himself and dove on top of it to shield everyone else from the blast.
and that's another reason not to have the CHIKARA library. i mean AEW's already been labeled a blood and guts promotion because of stuff like barbed wire and broken glass, just imagine the outrage if they showed stuff like the sprinkles. even if they don't air it on television, just having super ultra violent stuff like that on their website would probably get them kicked off TNT. how the Pennsylvania athletic commission could ever allow Los Ice Creams to compete after that i'll still don't know.

I don't think it's worth it to be honest. And that's without the whole issue of paying that slime Quackenbush.

Just take the good ideas from Chikara, not the brand itself.

No. To be honest, I'm not sure the Chikara brand or even the archive really has that much value, it was always a niche within another niche and lost a lot of momentum and popularity during the hiatus and never really recovered.

Honestly, if they wanted to show something, they could license it on the cheap. Chikara isn't getting a lot of requests for anything.

Yes but only to let us know Darkness Crabtree vs Lance Steel are still having their match.
I can see some value in the video library but much more in the young lion's cup and king of trios concepts.

I dont think they need to buy CHIKARA, with the company dead, if they wanted to just take the best ideas and put their own spin on it like King of Trios which I'd really like, and maybe the Young Lions Cup, it would work out for a lot of talent there
They already did the Tag Wold Grand Prix to crown their first tag champs and Lethal Lottery for the Women, so they're definitely already starting to do it, so they can continue to without paying the likes of Quack. Given how big some of their tag matches have been as well if they wanna do a Cibernetico they could too down the road...

It's not a terrible idea, if it'd be like AEW's version of NXT. (not necessarily a televised show, but as its own little touring side-project). The heads of AEW clearly have a nerdy, theater-kid love of wrestling, but they can't bring themselves to be too silly or experimental. A side-brand would give them a way to express that and to cycle the roster in and out a little to make sure things are never too bloated at any given time.
And King of Trios is just always going to work... and with the good relationships AEW already has with a bunch of other companies, it'd work great there.
And there are definitely members of the Chikara roster I'd love to see in AEW: Hallowicked, obviously, but there's a number of people who have kept very active and are making good names for themselves outside the factory.
Buuut. Part of what worked so well in Chikara was the long-term storytelling. That was a lot of the magic. Yeah, it didn't always work, and it even backfired somewhat... fans were disappointed whenever anything wasn't a secret signal from a time-traveller faking his identity because of something someone said four years ago. But when it was good, it was very good, and that was very, very Quack. It'd be hard to recreate.

as a massive CHIKARA mark, no. The company lost most of its energy in 2015, and was a walking corpse after. Take ideas like Cibernetico, King of Trios, Young Lion's Cup, and Tag World Grand Prix and be done with it.
