Now, before I say who it is, I want you to keep in mind that this is, in fact, the year 2021 and Pro Wrestling NOAH just got a rebrand for the first time in years to a more Misawa flavoured tint.
Got it? Good.
Yes, that is Keiji Mutoh and yes, he did beat Go Shiasaki clean as a whistle to be the third person in Japanese wrestling history to be IWGP Heavyweight, AJPW Triple Crown and GHC Heavyweight champion after Kensuske Sasaki and Yoshihiro Takayama.

58 years old and only held together by daily sacrifices like Kurt Angle is.

Mutoh is one of my top ten favourite wrestlers ever, but I hated this. Go had, by far, the best world championship reign of 2020, and it seemed that for the first time in years NOAH had a real focus and direction. And yeah, I get that Mutoh is probably gonna drop the title immediately to Kiyomiya, but the dude is 58 years old and has no knees. What a crappy ending to an amazing run from Shiozaki.

Remember when Eddie Edwards was champ for a spell? And defended the belt in TNA against someone from AAA. Also: 1)I thought Mutoh retired? 2)How is that man doing this with no knees?

Mutoh didn't have knees 20 years ago. I can't even imagine how he can move with stumps.

I'll say this, I wanna see this match.
Like, was this 20+ minutes of rest holds followed by a shining wizard?

Yeah, unless this somehow does major business for NOAH, which you know, pandemic, probably isn't going to happen. Why not just have Shiozaki drop the belt back to Kiyomiya? Mutoh can give the rub to Kiyomiya without having to touch the belt.
Considering how acclaimed this Shiozaki title reign became, it's such flat way to end it.

Didn't Ricky Morton get raves for his match at Spring Break? And that dude looks 100x more broken down then Mutoh.
Not saying it was a great idea to put the title on him, but it's really not that outlandish.

He only retired the moonsault Didn't he have knee replacement surgery as well? Yeah, that's why he retired the moonsault. He was getting ready for the surgery and he knew that he didn't want to keep doing it after getting a double knee replacement.

Like, it'd be more if ROH brought Ricky Morton in and he beat Rush for the world title.

Ever since he beat Kiyomiya late last year, I figured he was taking the belt from Shiozaki and dropping it to Kaito later. It still sucks, and I hate it. But they kinda telegraphed it.

Figured everyone would hate this. Mutoh is doing this to put Kiyomiya over the same way he did Tanahashi when he was IWGP champion.
I’ve learned to never question him.
