Anyone else miss the old Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, WCW worldwide or any other shows of this nature. I know AEW is doing this with Dark and the new show starting up but I miss those old school shows where you built up guys by beating jobbers and then getting a decent main event with stars. It’s a lost art in today’s wrestling and would go a long ways to have guys built up better.

Well they kind of started again, but Elsworth probably put the kibosh on that.

A show for their wrestlers to pad their win/loss column so it looks impressive on tv, full of enhancement talent getting beat and the occasional amazing match?

Like I mentioned yes i believe it is for AEW. I just wish there were more shows like this.

Most guys in today's WWE would have been jobbers in the 1980s or 90s. If you miss the Superstars or Challenges, look no further than Raw or Smackdown because you'll see a bunch of jobbers on there. There's a reason WWE brings back the guys like Edge and Goldberg and it's because their new so called talents are not making it.

This should be the model for TV's from here on out. This kind of a format helps build up wrestlers as threats, keeps them from racking up losses that hurt their credibility, and keeps rivals apart until they are ready to blow off their feud on ppv or (occasionally) on TV. One of the biggest issues I have with WWE aside from show length and title overload, is that aside from someone just debuting, no feuds really seem fresh. It also helps to feature one group of wrestlers one week, and another group the next. This way, we don't have certain people hogging the spotlight week after week.
Dark has the right idea, but this should be how Dynamite works, with the focus on building hype for blowoff shows and ppv's.
The current format is a byproduct of the Monday Night Wars, when each fed had to top the other. Even with AEW now, both companies should step back and take a less is more approach.

And also a way to dredge up potential assets. Like the various jobbers who have gone on to get signed and pushed.

I love heel natural disasters squash matches, lol.
The other thing squash matches did was allow them to give character traits, dibiase putting the dollar in the guy's mouth, undertaker's bodybag, jake's snake, brutus's haircutting, etc. to fill out the guy's characters. So it wasn't so much "we know who's going to win", it was "how is this guy different than the last guy" that was shown off.

AEW does this well, but with the very rare exception of the Hardys, this never seemed to happen in WWE. If anything, it made the enhancement guys look like losers who would never be taken seriously. This is one drawback to having this model.

Wrestling doesn't work without jobbers. No jobbers mean stars wrestle each other too often and become overexposed.

Wouldn't work. Jobber matches are can miss tv. The money is no longer in house shows but in tv revenue. This is absolutely correct. But I think AEW Dark is showing it can be done online. WWE could do something similar, except they obviously have established a different "feeding system" for getting new talent on screen; rather than bringing in indie guys as enhancement and giving them a look it's all Performance Centre. I love the old TV format with jobbers, but all of the above considered, it's just not viable in WWE.

Doesn't WWE Main Event still exist? That and WWE Superstars were Jobber vs Star shows.

I love the jobber shows. You get 5 squash matches, maybe one short competitive match, interviews, and a PPV hype segment in an hour. I find an old episode of Superstars or Wrestling Challenge to be much more watchable than Raw these days.

There was something so satisfying about watching a dude like the Warlord just ragdolling some pasty, flabby dude that looked like he’d never seen the inside of a gym, but it wouldn’t work now.

Bit off topic, I’d love to see a match between The Warlord vs. Wardlow. Then hear the commentators get confused. 😛

Doesn't WWE Main Event still exist? That and WWE Superstars were Jobber vs Star shows. March 4th edition: Mansoor d. Drew Gulak and Ricochet d. Akira Tozawa.
