Yea , after seeing the new trailer there is WAY too much they are cramming in. There is really no reason to be doing both Unicron and Beast Wars in the same movie. Also, the lack of Hailee Steinfeld is really bumming me out. Didn't realize she wasn't involved.

Remember when Beast Wars first season finale teased Unicron, and then made the big planet-busting threat the creation of a spin-off concept from Transformers Generation 2?

Unicron is in the movie...Optimus' "Let them come" line takes a new meaning.

As been said, looks too cluttered with far too many characters.

TBF, this takes place mid-90s. They'd have to age Hailee up quite a bit. In Bumblebee, which takes place in 1987, Charlie was 18 years old. In 1994 she'd be around 25. In real life Hailee Steinfeld is 26. That's not exactly a stretch. In fact it feels like the year was specifically chosen with Steinfeld in mind.

Cluttered with too many characters trying to do too many things is kind of a staple of Transformers movies, right back to the 80s one. I suspect this is a victim of the MCU-like universe push they were discussing, pre-covid, and like other attempts to build a universe it'll be a rushed, muddled mess with seeds sown for things they won't follow up on when the movie underperforms.

Yeah, I know. But I think that we were all kinda hoping they had finally learned their lesson after Bumblebee. I mean, a movie where the Autobots, Decepticons and Beast Wars characters have to team up to stop Unicron would be a great "Endgame"-type movie, built up over the course of three or four smaller-in-scope films where we establish the characters and universe. But just dropping it all in one movie with no build just screams DCEU.

Unfortunately Bumblebee didn't make all the money the way the Bay films did, even though it was the best of the lot, the film the original 2007 movie was envisioned to be back when Spielberg wanted to tell a story of a boy and his car and alien robots. Sadly I don't think anyone's learned from the DCEU failure, they're going to keep trying to make 4 movies worth of universe building an afterthought and end up having to either drop the series entirely or reboot.

The animated movie they're making already seems like an "in case of emergency" back-up to relaunch the cinematic franchise in case this one bombs...like they have almost no confidence in it.

I'm one of those older fans who should be excited for the maximals. However, I grew completely fatigued with the movies and gave up eventually. Bumblebee was good but the latter Michael bays were just slogs. I remember the one with the dinobots just seemed like and endless string of unrelated scenes that were put in because reasons.
I might stream this at some point but that's unlikely.

You're definitely not alone. Audiences in general seem to have gotten tired of these movies based on the massively diminishing returns in the last two movies. Looking at the details, this movie is being made for significantly less than Bumblee ($135 million vs. $250 million), so a similar box office total wouldn't be disastrous. Still, it's starting to feel like the days of $100+ million budgets may well be over for Transformers... which is a problem, because the sheer amount of CGI needed to bring these movies to the screen is ridiculously expensive.

I might stream this at some point but that's unlikely. That’s where I’m at. I genuinely really enjoy the first Transformer, the second was f***ing awful, the third was fun but way too long, 4 and 5 were shit and I really liked Bumblebee. I was excited for this when it was announced, but the more I see of it the less interest I have. And I love Beast Wars. I’ve rewatched it within the past couple years, and it holds up pretty good. I should be pumped for this movie but I’m very “meh, I’m sure I’ll get around to seeing it”

Reviews coming in 64% on RT Definite drop from Bumblebee, but if it holds it would be a solid number two for the franchise.
