Ok, watched the final episode.
I kinda appreciate unhinged Coach T. I do feel sorry for the guy on some level. Yeah, he was an unethical asshole in season one, but at the same time he seemed to have devoted his life to the Ducks turning them into a powerhouse team for the league, only to be completely embarrassed by a guy who's one step above living as a hobo and a bunch of kids who couldn't even skate a few weeks earlier.
Is St. Olaf College a real place? Or did the show just make a really weird Golden Girls reference?
I hate how this game is all about how awesome Jace is with nobody else being able to do anything as long as
he's playing bad. Like, not a single other character is getting any kind of spotlight in this spotlight game. It's approaching Poochy levels.
Nick taking over commentary was kinda cool for him. Although the way he was talking about how he was analyzing the other kids at the camp earlier in the season I really thought he would become more of a player-coach type character for the team.
Evan scoring that penalty goal felt crazy anti-climatic for some reason. With the mood lighting (is that something that happens in real hockey?) I kinda expected it to suddenly cut back to a depressed Evan sitting on the bench while Jace makes the goal, revealing Evan imagined the whole thing.
I thought Alex had better chemistry with Coach Cole then she did with Bombay. But part of that is mainly because it felt like Emilio Estevez was sleep-walking his way though season one. Which actually did really fit where his character was at at the time, but doesn't really make for a riveting love story. If nothing else Josh Duhamel felt like he was putting in the effort.
I really thought this season showed a lot of potential when it started, but man it fell apart quickly. We didn't necessarily need Bombay because I think there was a real story to be had with Alex putting together a surprisingly competitive team by favoring teamwork and strategy vs. Coach Cole simply wanting to improve individual skills. But instead we get "The Ducks suck until they suddenly don't" and Alex wanting this to be Salute Your Shorts. It felt like the writers just lost interest midway through and just coasted on half thought out plans until it was time to wrap things up.
