Al’s savage insults towards the shoe store customers is the best part of the show! “Aren’t you open?” “Sorry Ma’am but unlike you’re mouth we occasionally close” 😂 Everyone who's ever worked retail wishes they could go off on customers like Al did.

I was 12 or 13 when the show started. And pretty much every week I watched it.
The Mill Creek complete run set is a decent way to get the show now. I think Hulu has it streaming. But I end up watching the DVDs fairly often.
Over the last decade been slowly buying at least 1 copy of every MWC comic that came out. NOW Comics put out 2 main series of MWC,plus a pile of mini series and one shots.
It has been one of my top 5 sitcoms since around season 3. Yea it is a tiny bit dated. I do wonder how the show would have been if Kinison and Barr got the lead roles like what was originally planned.

One of my favorite shows. In a lot of ways, people are right, you could never do that show now. You would have to tweak all the characters, basically except Al. It’s a product of its time and I think it’s held extremely well, but you couldn’t do it now.

Absoloutley love this show ..Al is only rivaled by Uncle Phil as the best TV dad IMO of all time.
But absoloutley no way hell would this make it past its pilot today if even that and that in part is why I love it so much

For everyone saying you couldn't make it today, I definitely feel like there's money to be made with Al reacting to and interacting with woke culture. Honestly, The Bundys in 2021 in general would be money. I'd kind of liken it to The Brady Bunch Movie from the mid-90s. It'd be like the antithesis of the super wholesome Brady Bunch interacting with the drab and depressing culture of the 90s, but instead, you'd have the politically incorrect Bundys, who are now even more out of place than they were 25-30 years ago, interacting with the modern world.

One of my favorite shows ever. I’m in probably the extreme minority that wish it went longer. Also, Al’s shoot on the librarian in that one episode is top notch stuff: Who freezes Pop Tarts?

I am still looking for that episode of The Jefferson in which Florence finds George's jock strap and this dialogue happens.
Florence: "What's that?"
George: "Hmm that's my cup."
Florence: "How the heck are you suppose to drink out of that?"

I'll see you Jefferson's on Ice and raise you with this one Actually when I was searching for this I found ANOTHER clip of Bud and Kelly singing the Jefferson's theme as well Somebody on that show's staff REALLY loved the Jeffersons

Al Bundy is sort of a 90's incarnation of Archie Bunker. Like, he appeals to a specific audience, but we're also meant to laugh at him and people like him.
There's really interesting meta-commentary going on with the show. It's brilliant in how it manages to be appealing to the lowest common denominator while simultaneously being a satire on everything they represent. It's a much smarter show than it appears to be on the surface, but a lot of people don't look past that surface.
That said, the hootin' and hollerin' audience/laugh track was f***ing obnoxious.

They were producers and writers on The Jeffersons before this so there’s a lot of references to that in Married With Children. (Especially the one where Al and Jefferson sneak out of the Jeffersons musical and sneak in Bud and Kelly disguised as them)

This must’ve been before the running gag of them having LITERALLY no food really kicked in.

Love how it was established in one episode that there is one thing that really turns Al on and would even entice him to have sexual intercourse with Peg...seeing Peggy working. Yet considering Peg's attitude about working makes it clear why their sexual intercourses only happen once in a blue moon.

One of my favorite recurring gags is that, any time Al is thrown or falls from a roof, etc, an astonishingly unconvincing dummy is used. It makes it much funnier than it would be, otherwise, and is enough to make me wonder if they willingly chose to use such bad dummies, as opposed to the Fugitive, which used a very expensive dummy, only for it to look hilarious in action and not much more realistic.

That one particular episode (the barbecue one, I assume) and that whole sequence is extremely uncomfortable within modern context because she doesn’t give consent. They could NOT get away with that now.

They do also have the episode where she cooked food for him and they had sex. She decides it's not really worth the hours she spent cooking him a bunch of meat, only for very brief sex.

It's one of the things they got from the Three Stooges. It's funnier when it looks less realistic. BTW, Al's scream of terror was what made it funnier. *puts hand down pants*

Loved the show growing up, honestly watching Kelly and Peg as a growing boy didn't hurt. But found the show funny and entertaining.
Shame that in later seasons, Ed O'Neill (Al) and Amanda Bearse (Marcy) ended up having each other in real life
