What's...amazing? Frustrating? Annoying? about it is that there was SO much gold within it, and even as they were screwing it up, you can see potential salvaging points in hindsight that they just didn't go with Mike Awesome (ignoring his own shortcomings) was woefully misused. But his first 60 seconds in the company? Attacking Rhyno out of nowhere and winning the hardcore title? Might be one of my top 10 biggest mark out moments ever And if you ignore everything else surrounding it...DDP being the first truly big name to be in Madison Square Garden, getting the pop of a lifetime? That's massive.

If you weren't watching at the time it is really hard to describe the atmosphere of this show and its build. So many mistakes in the booking, but it is a much more watchable time than you may remember. It’s weird because looking back, it felt like a much bigger deal than it actually was because I was still in my naive mark phase (who knew it was fake because I was in a school with kids who wouldn’t let me have kayfabe, damnit). It was when Shawn Stasiak was bumping into walls that was my “take the red pill” moment and made me go “Wait, this storyline is shit!” Was WWE still angry at Stasiak for recording private conversations of some of the wrestlers when he worked there?

It's always I threshing to go back and listen to wrestlers talk about the different things that hurt WCW wrestlers. Cause even without some of the biggest names WWF did get quite a few people that were heavily featured in the last year of WCW.
A lot of guys Vince and his crew just hated the look of and also didn't think they could work (WCW had a smaller ring than WWF so a lot of guys struggled with the transition)
The only guys really given a shot were guys with friends already in WWF

I still say they should’ve given the stalker angle to someone else. Was Vampiro available that time?

Unmasks to a mega pop as the first big WCW name to show up. Gets them to boo him by explaining his actions. It really is genius. Just... only that one bit of it.

One of my big gripes about the InVasion and especially that ppv was the lack of Angie vs Storm. I know they did wrestle a handful of matches together, but what better scenario could you have had for a full blown upper-midcard program, particularly at that pint in time? Two of the best technical performers in the biz, WCW vs WWF, and USA vs Canada to boot.

They never would have given them the time to work.

In fact that catchphrase indicates a huge issue with how WWE didn't get him. 'If I could be serious for a minute' is a GENIUS thing to say as a heel in that era of wrestling. Who would peg Lance f***ing Storm getting a catchphrase over? Goddamn I am still mad about this it has been TWO DECADES

My young ass was so, so hyped for RVD/Jeff and by gawd did it deliver.
I liked being reminded of Heyman’s random latin and Stephanies nonsensical pre-match shriek.

Meanwhile, the WWF/E conflated "not wanting a personality" with "doesn't have a personality."

Was WWE still angry at Stasiak for recording private conversations of some of the wrestlers when he worked there? That and even going to the competition at all, from what I can remember. Vince and the loyal WWF guys were probably bitter Shawn didn't stick with WWF in an awful gimmick and no future. He went to WCW despite Vince J. giving his father an amazing 9 day WWWF champ reign and any kin of Stan should be grateful and stick with WWF no matter what. The evil WCW's money lead Shawn astray. DDP deserves A LOT of credit. This man has built a successful business outside of wrestling which is more than his opponent at the time can say (Undertaker) and the owner of WWF/WWE (Vince McMahon). Dallas Page has saved lives so he is untouchable to those two men and most other WWF/WWE loyalists but back then he had no say in what happens and went through the awful stalker storyline because he loved wrestling. I do think he should have known better to trust anyone in WWF and should have known his career would be purposely derailed by WWF and the guys who weren't offered huge WCW contracts or didn't make it originally. The Invasion seems as old as Wrestlemania in 1985, I can't believe it's only been 20 years and yet it seems like it was just yesterday.

I still wanna know who the f*** thought that Austin turning (again) was a good idea. Especially if you think and book ahead, Jericho being the one to turn and lead The Alliance en route to being the first Undisputed Champion would've made more sense, no?

Dude got massively over as a face, and then they turned him heel. I still wanna know who the f*** that Austin turning (again) was a good idea. Especially if you think and book ahead, Jericho being the one to turn and lead The Alliance en route to being the first Undisputed Champion would've made more sense, no? But it did give us Angle vs Austin, which was good. So that was one plus.

Like most I felt the Invasion storyline sucked but I must say I loved the Invasion PPV. The highlight of the whole storyline for me.

Meanwhile, the WWF/E conflated "not wanting a personality" with "doesn't have a personality." The point of the Lance Storm character in WCW was that he was supposed to be reactionary. He’s a serious and strict sportsman who is surrounded by wackier, more eccentric wrestlers and he doesn’t know how to cope. I don’t know if Austin felt the same way that Vince obviously did when he cut that promo on Lance, but if so neither one understood that.
