There were other threads but I think it makes more sense to just make a new one and go from there.

Gave it a watch last night. Went in blind, considered reading the book a few months ago but passed. Beautiful visuals and directing from Villeneuve if you’re into his sort of scope.
Cast was great. Momoa steals it imo.

Really good movie. Acting, cinematography and visuals were great and Villenueve made the story easy to follow. Only minor complaint I really have is that the end isn’t very exciting as it’s a setup for the sequel, but that’s ok. Hopefully they get Part Two and/or Part Three to finish the story. Definitely want to see more of this world.

It really has to be looked at like Kill Bill. It’s one movie broken up into 2 parts. They just should have pulled the trigger on filming it all at once and releasing it 6 months to a year apart.

As a life long fan of the books, man was this so great to watch. Felt like the first time I watched Lord of the Rings and could finally properly visualize things from the books. I kinda figured it would end where it ended. Pretty pivotal moment in the book and from there thing take a drastic change.

Except not, because it wasn't shot back to back and part 2 hasn't been approved yet. Maybe they planned ahead and the cast will still be free if it's a hit, but I don't think they really set themselves up for success here.

I liked it, although the last ten minutes were rather irritating and if you know, you know.

I'm sure I am in the complete and absolute minority, but I honestly liked the David Lynch version more. Just something really fun about epic soundtrack and crazy production design with a bit of overacting. This was good, but a bit tedious in parts.
Also, books readers or Dune experts. That changing scene near the end... why was there a weird sexual tension?

Got around to watching it and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Did a great job of distilling the bullet points of the novel into a watchable narrative while doing enough world building to make the sequels intriguing. Probably a wise move to not drop stuff like the Spacing Guild, Machine Jihad, etc. on audiences in the first film.
Wasn't really sold on Timothee Chalamet as Paul initially. I'm straight and I still think dude is just too pretty to buy as a bad ass, but that seems like kind of exactly what they were going for this time, and it'll be interesting to see how the character develops.
Hope it does well enough to convince them to at least finish out this story.

I've not seen the first - neither have I read the book. Is this worth a watch for me? I'm interested already, but would hate to be lost for 3 hours

I'm interested already, but would hate to be lost for 3 hours I was a lil lost at times (especially with certain aspects involving the mother) but you kind of just gather the important bits. If you liked Blade Runner 2049/Sci-Fi, I’d recommend it. If you have an IMAX screen near you, I’d absolutely recommend it.

It's the same story as the 1984 version, just a reinterpretation of the source. The 1984 version is a bit wacky, you might be more confused after watching. And not sure why people say it's a complex story. It's pretty straight forward imho.
