What movies did you watch again and again and again and again, thanks to HBO?

Sometime in the early-80s they turned on HBO to our house for one of those One Month Free promotions, and then just forgot to turn it off again. Ever. That first month had Star Wars - A New Hope playing. I might have watched it every day that month.

Close, but you got to have the full version. Ooooh, that takes me back. My parents taped the Sesame Street movie Follow That Bird off HBO way back when, and I distinctly remember the part of the intro starting around the 47-second mark. I recently rediscovered the movie on HBO Max.

When we first got HBO it only ran from about 5pm to 3am. The channel was pretty much dead air otherwise…but…about an hour or so before their day started they would start testing their signal. They would run promos and previews for shows. That is where I first saw the “How We Made The Opening Credits” feature. And one day I got to watch the entire Elton John concert from Central Park (the one where he wore the Donald Duck costume.
As far as movies and shows I watched, there was always Beastmaster, The Apple Dumpling Gang was on a lot, Fraggle Rock was fun.

Journey of Natty Gann, Empire of the Sun, even Sesame Street.

Anyone watch this in HBO that time?
Interesting trivia three of the first episodes were based on EC Comics chapters Tales From The Crypt, Vault Of Horror and Shock SuspensStories, and even more two of those episodes would be remade to Tales From The Crypt a decade later, specifically Came The Dawn and Split Personality.

I never knew that! I always thought this was some b series and would change the channel when the intro would hit. I was like 10 but still.

Things I usually watched in this time period.... The Tom Sawyer and Little Women anime dubs Babar Encyclopedia Encyclopedia Brown Fraggle Rock Ghost of Faffner Hall Braingames
Movies: Besides the aforementioned Body Slam, I always seemed to see: Supergirl and Superman IV (yep...) A Christmas Story (this is where the obsession began) They also seemed to carry a lot of what appeared to be former Afterschool Special or TV movies. "So What If I'm Gay" with Scott Baio. There was this one with a man with Down's syndrome who wanted to work in radio, that I keep forgetting the name of. I know they had cutaways where he talked with a Kermit the Frog puppet. The Worst Witch THE DAMN PEANUT BUTTER SOLUTION (which I saw ads for everywhere, but I think I actually only saw half-3/4ths of the movie) Grease (or did my sister always watching our VHS from HBO make it feel like that?) Bye Bye Birdie
Specials: All the Berenstain Bears ones LYLE, LYLE CROCODILE: THE DAMN MUSICAL. ("Doooooooooooooooooon't leave me noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow...") I Want That, or whatever the series about advertising was. Paddington Bear Goes To School/PB's Birthday All the Madeline specials The Making of Fraggle Rock
Shorts: Hug Me (the one about the porcupine who wanted hugs) Bug Jam (something to do with a fly/bug playing guitar) The Ant and the Girl Myra Dog Brain The animation about how the dog was invented ("What do THEY know?") Was Sports Cartoon ever on HBO?

HBO should definitely bring back the old feature presentation intro.
Things I remember from HBO back in the day: Many many playing of Super Snooper, the short making of things they would show between movies (In particular I remember the batwing crash sequence from Batman 89 and the Bus Jump and train crash from Speed), Real Sex having to be on when you awkwardly switch past the channel with your parents walking through (The Helicopter, difficulty level 4 - requires very dexterous partner), and the boxing (Man I miss boxing on HBO).

That was Skinnamax (Friday nights after 11 PM in the early 90) for me. I do have some very vague memories of some of that on HBO or Showtime in the lat 80s though. I could write a dissertation on sexual awakening in a sheltered household in the 90s, come to think, but this is a family forum.
