Most of the time Tony is playing the adult in the room between hype man Excalibur and grumpy old curmudgeon JR, but Don Callis is such an awful person that he even gets the most professional man in AEW to break character and call him a piece of shit on live mic. Not even MJF has managed that so far. Just a little touch that made that phenomenal cage match even better and further cements Schiavone as easily my favorite commentator in wrestling right now and possibly ever.

I can’t wait to hear the sheer disdain he uses on Adam Cole

Tony: "Will you stop with the bullshit"
The other announcers: "We apologize for the colorful language"
Tony: "I don't apologize for it, you're full of shit"
Not verbatim, but as close as my memory allows.
Tony was on peak form tonight.

I like to think Tony has learned this sass from being Britt Baker's best friend

not related to the moment or the match at all but at the end of the show when Tony said “god i love pro wrestling” you can just tell that he really meant it, and I know I always say this but I feel like they don’t get enough credit for it but thank you MLW for bringing Schiavone back into wrestling

I cannot even begin to express how much I love hearing Tony Schiavone call wrestling in 2021.
Anytime there is a mic in front of him now, you're hearing a man doing what he does best and loving every single f***ing moment of it. You can hear how overjoyed he is to be doing this again. You can hear how grateful he is to be there. He's working with people he loves and respects, and you can hear the love and respect they have for Tony.
I remember hearing Tony say not that long ago on WHW that he didn't have it in him anymore to call 3 hour PPVs and weekly TV anymore. And here we are, watching him not only do it, but arguably do it better than he ever has.

I genuinely believe that the best thing AEW has done is getting Tony Schiavone back into wrestling. The last years of WCW aside, I think he's easily the greatest commentator of all time.

Tony must've had himself a great night. He got to tell off Don Callis, his object of hate MJF got beat, Britt retained, and his best friend Paul Wight successfully avenged him.

I think Tony's AEW run is really going to end up placing him higher on the "greatest wrestling commentators of all time" list than prior. For a lot of us, we just haven't really heard him in over 2 decades, I mean I didn't peep dude's other work so hearing him here and seeing how great he still is (when his peers have fallen some) just shows his longevity.

Has to be said, we have to thank Court Bauer and MLW for getting him back into wrestling. Even though he was only there briefly, it feels only fair to thank the right people.

I can't remember if JR did, or not, but I could've sworn all the commentators got to say shit at some point of the night, Tony hit the double shit with Don Callis... Excalibur screamed "Bullshit" after the false finish with MJF... and I'm pretty sure JR snuck one in at one point.
My point is.... Chuck Taylor must be fuming backstage because even the commentators got their moment before he did!

Also has to be said, dude was buried for years as being terrible off his later WCW work which we know now can be put down to the fact that he was given shit to deal with. Like, you try and give a damn when Vince Russo’s posse of Jarrett, Steiner and Nash swerve you for the billionth time in a way that makes everyone involved look like dipshits. As it turns out, you give commentators something to work with (or pay them on time in Taz’s case with TNA), they’ll put out good work. Shocking, I know.

I love Tony. Excalibur is the more neutral play-by-play guy, JR is the old-fashioned guy, but Tony is the crowd. We all wish we could say "bullshit" to Callis and insult MJF like Tony does.

What was funny was that Tony said Callis was full of shit, Excalibur had to apologize and then HE ended up saying “Bullshit” for that false finish. I’m saying Excalibur is a hypocrite.

Honestly? I think all 3 announcers were at peak form last night.
Tony is just thrilled to be back in wrestling and enjoying himself
JR put his working cowoby hat on, because honestly I heard very little grumpy old man last night
Excalibur is clearly the future voice of AEW.

Honestly, outside of the name botches, JR’s been pretty good the last couple of weeks. His own banter with Callis have been hilarious at times (“Beautiful Suit, Don” still gets me because of the timing) and it does feel Punk’s return kicked him into a bit of a gear. It’s not going to last and he’s still making obvious mistakes but it’s nice.
